Biography:

The Book Is the Star!

We play music the old fashioned way-- we read it! Every person who plays in the Original Recipe Band reads music proficiently. That way, if your event happens to fall on a day when our trombone player is getting married, we have a powerful bench of trombonists to call and you'll never even notice.

It also prevents us from having to play "Satin Doll," "Girl from Ipanema," and "Take the 'A' Train" during the dinner set. We do play them, but it's not out of a "lowest common denominator" approach to jazz among the members of our rhythm section and our core horn players! In some bands, these three tunes are the only swing tunes they know. There are definately levels of players and bands you can hire. We hope you set your standards as high as we do. All of our arrangements are voiced for the four piece horn section and our rhythm section. Each a custom arrangements written by our band conductor and baritone Saxophonist, Richard Fenno.

We Get Bigger!

If the fuller more complete big band sound is what you are looking for ask us about The Original Recipe Big Band! We increase our horn section by three more players and provide you with a 100 song library of custom arrangements of big band classics voiced especially for the 12 piece band - including vocals!

We Are Self-Contained!

The Original Recipe Band has one of the most modern PA systems in the business. Our Mackie powered speakers can - and have - handled rooms as large as full size aircraft hangers for over 750 guests. If your event has more than 750, we have another set of Mackies we can use to double our power. Don't worry about us overwhelming your guests with annoyingly high sound levels, though. We believe in conversational levels for drinks and dinner, and raising the levels for newer dance numbers later in the time line of your event.

We carry basic stage lighting and can, given advance notice, hire a lighting operator and complete custom lighting system. All logistical and technical support for the band is included in our bids. We will charge a travel fee for any gig outside a 100 male radius of our home base, Austin, Texas to offset fuel and wear and tear on our vehicles.
