In her short three years working amongst the Spoken Word world, she has headlined from New York to California and everywhere in between.In 2008 She was selected along with 6 other poets from across the country to compete in the "Last Poet Standing" Invitational, handpicked by Taalam Acey, and is the reigning Grand Slam Champion of Richmond, Va. She also is a contributing columnist for, and has released "All that I am", her freshman project. She is available for all ranges of events. About
Megan Rickman touched stage for the first time in January of 2007. She attended Slam Richmond’s monthly poetry slam, a competition attracting some of the most prominent spoken word artists in Virginia. After three rounds she arose from the mic victorious, And has been electrifying audiences since. In late 2007 she began her headlining career at the legendary Nuyorician’s Poets Café, of Manhattan, NY. Since then she has toured the country with shows such as Denver’s historic Mercury Café and SlamNuba, Los Angeles’s famed FlyPoet Showcase, and everywhere in between. In 2008 she was handpicked by Taalam Acey to compete in the invitational Last Poet Standing Slam, in which her team was crowned champions. Soon after taking Slam Richmond to a semi-finalist appearance in the 2008 National Poetry Slam. In 2009 she took the Grand Slam Champion title for Richmond, Va. , The team that secured third place at the National Slam Competition “Southern Fried Poetry Slam”. When not touring she teaches in the Virginia Public High School system, in connection with the Virginia High School League, in order to introduce poetry to the students. She is currently the executive consultant for the committee structuring “Poetry Slam” to be a High School Sport in 2010. Her freshman album “All that I am” sold over 1,000 copies, she is currently in the studio building her next project. From ballroom to boardroom Megan Rickman never fails to ignite and inspire a crowd. She is available for workshop, speaking, and performance engagements.
