Professional speaker and mental health media consultant these are the ways that I can assist your project. I have a passion for speaking and for trying to help better people's lives through my educational presentations or assisting the media with accurate mental health information or portrayals. I use an interactive approach and encourage audience participation. I am flexible and work with a variety of settings.
Speaking background: I have presented all over the DFW metroplex, Houston, & Hawaii during the last twelve years, and have been asked to come back as a presenter for several of those locations. I have been a two-time presenter for the Mental Health Association of Dallas' Adolescent Symposium and a three time presenter for the Collin County Council on Family Violence conference. Both events attract several hundred professionals from various backgrounds in mental health, nursing, probation, academia, and the general public. In addition, I have also presented at State wide conferences. I'm comfortable presenting to large crowds & have given several presentations where there were over 115 individuals present. In regards to colleges, I have presented to four of the metroplex's campuses. School districts have requested that I come to speak to them on a variety of subjects that range from perfectionism, self-injury, mean girls/bullying, boundaries, abuse identification, stress management, and drug education. MENTAL HEALTH CONSULTANT:
Films: Relationships 901--filmed for the movie as an industry expert and also served as a consultant for the film Better Lived Than Dreamed by Brandon Marshall. I also consulted on a PSA for depression. Currently, I have been doing guest interviews for an upcoming TV show called RAW--Real Authentic Women. As of September, two of my four interviews for http://womananew.com/ internet TV have posted. The Boundaries interview is approx. 14 minutes in length and the Dating interview is approx. 7 minutes.
TV:
In regards to TV interviews, I have been interviewed by CW33 evening news three times and CBS 11 evening news (SEE NEWS page on my website www.lorivanncounseling.com to view all of the TV interviews). At the end of October 2009, I was on a panel of professionals during a premier of KERA's Boyfriends documentary and will be listed on their website as a referral. The director of the Boyfriends' film interviewed me regarding my professional opinion about issues that were brought up during the filming of their documentary. On the Media Happenings page of my website, you will be able to see the four newspapers that have interviewed me regarding self-injury and other media outlets, such as two magazines, that I have spoken to regarding parenting issues with teens and boundary issues in dating.

In September 2009, I filmed an episode for Friday Night Lights; I was part of the Panther Faculty. I have also appeared on MTV, CBS, and the CW. I am currently consulting on a script for a film regarding relationships called Relationships 901 and offering my professional opinion about the material.
RADIO: I have recorded 4 radio ads for large Dallas-Ft. Worth radio stations. I wrote the ad for KDGE 102.1 and co-wrote the KDMX 102.9 ad. I co-hosted a national call-in radio show called Choices on KWRD five times while it was on the air in 2000. In 2009, I was a panelist on another national call-in radio show that was based out of Florida. I was also interviewed for DeserveWhatYouWant.com internet radio. Many other interviews on the website.

Academic History:
I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, graduating Cum Laude, from Pepperdine University. I earned my Master of Arts degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage, Family, & Child Counseling from Chapman University where I graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Licensure:
I have been licensed as a Professional Counselor in the State of Texas since 2001 and a LPC Supervisor since 2003.
Professionally speaking, I have worked at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, an outpatient clinic, non-profit organizations, and in private practice. Over the years, I have been a professor for both the Collin County and Dallas County Community College Districts.
Speaking Style:
I like to engage the audience with questions and feedback. Depending on the presentation, I may provide handouts for the audience. I present with a casual and flexible demeanor, but am well-versed on the topics that I present. I usually use PowerPoint, but can speak without the use of a computer.
I am able to tailor my presentation to your audience's needs, whether that be time limits or areas that you would like for me to address.

Typical Gig Duration: 30 - 360 minutes
Media: mental health consultant and actress-- I am able to provide you with over 13 years of counseling experience. I am comfortable in front of the camera or behind the scenes working with the writers. To date, I have given 6 television interviews as an expert on several different topics. I also have acting experience, so if you have a need for a therapist, speaker, professor, or a character with a mental health issue, then I can assist you with those needs.
As a speaker, I am flexible and casual with my audience. I actively engage the audience with questions and feedback. I often use PowerPoint for my presentations, but can speak without it. Feedback that I have received from professional speaking groups, such as the Speaker's Co-Op, is that they felt that I am a "natural" at speaking & that I engage the audience.
I tailor my presentation to your event's needs, whether that be time constraints or specific areas that you would like for me to address.

Additional Notes:
If I am using PowerPoint, I will need a screen and may need a PowerPoint projector, depending on the location of the venue. Depending on the size of the venue, I may need a microphone. I can provide my own laptop and laser pointer.
Set/Song/Sequence List:
I will arrive at least 10 minutes before I am scheduled to speak, but can arrive at whatever time the organizer requires of me. After the presentation, I am glad to stay at the event for a little bit of time answering questions.
