Veteran Studio Bassist, Christian Vocalist, Songwriter and Producer Larry Kimpel has been thrilling world wide audiences for year’s by backing up some the biggest stars in the music industry. Since his professional debut in 1977 with the world renowned Staple Singers he has played on over 300 CD’s and worked with everyone from Grammy Award Winning R&B Diva Anita Baker all the way to Pop Rock acts like Steve Perry and Alanis Morisette.

Larry inherited a rich musical legacy that started with his Great-Grandmother sitting on her back porch playing an old weather-beaten guitar just to pass the time in the Arkansas Delta during the birth of the Blues in the 1920s. The legacy continued all the way up through the Great Migration of the 1930s and 40s when Larry’s Father Allen David Kimpel or simply “A.D.” realized that he had a talent for singing and with that, he joined the local church choir. His voice was a deep rich tenor in the style of the legendary Nat King Cole and as a result, he was asked to lead many of the songs that the choir sang on Sunday mornings.

In the evenings, Larry’s dad would come home from his job at the Chicago Stock Yards and sit his infant son on his knee and sing soft melodic ballads to him. Little did he know that he was planting the seeds of music in his young son and that those seeds would blossom into a world-class music career in the years to come!

Larry was just five years old when he started playing the piano that his Aunt Ruby saved up for out her modest earnings as a cleaning woman for a local area university. Larry quickly showed aptitude for the instrument as he began picking out the melody to Ramsey Lewis' version of “Wade in the Water”. His Aunt Ruby then paid for weekly private lessons with a local piano teacher and Saturday lessons at both The Lyon & Healy School of Music and The Art Institute of Chicago. Larry says…”I owe a huge debt of thanks that I'll never be able to repay to my family for their love and undying support of my dreams; and I would not be where I am without them!” By age twelve Larry realized that he had inherited his father’s singing voice and began singing tenor in his church’s youth choir. But even with the gift of voice, Larry gravitated towards the bass guitar as his means of his artistic expression.

Larry now uses his considerable influence in his chosen field of entertainment to impact the lives of children and families who are looking for a hand up and someone to believe in them. Through his work with the foundations he has come along side
(The Christmas 365 Foundation, Christian Mentors, The Music Exchange), Larry hopes to bring forth a new culture of caring and hope to thousands of people in the United States and around the world.
