About
Artist Bio:
Family brought together by one inspiration; "The Love of Authentic Traditional Music of the Cajun Culture and Heritage", formed by Dan Wilcox and Pam Wilcox founders of LaFamille Band. Accordionist - John Leger originally from Biloxi, MS. sings original arrangements that tell the story in much of the music lost by new age influences. John comes from a family legacy of musicians, including his late father Amos Leger , who played guitar. John has been playing since 6 years old, by ear and listening to the old records of his father and grandfather. John also made TV appearances as a child on the TV show Passe Passe Tout, in Lafayette. John Played for many years with Allen Fontenot and the Country Cajuns, and went on to record his own CD with a band John called his own, the John Leger and the Debris Band. His CD is available on ITUNES and various resources. He also recorded a CD as John Leger Bayou Dinde, as well John appeared in the Hollywood Movie, Les Chenier, which is a beautifully done movie about south Louisiana life, with John playing music live in movie and on recorded tracks. John's influences or favorites were Iry Lejeune. Johns lost all of his musical equipment in hurricane RITA and now currently plays on Dan Wilcox's Custom Cajun King Accordion and Dan's Jr. Martin Accordion. Dan Wilcox, guitar player from Gretna, La. grew up with influence of Cajun Music with family. Dan learned guitar by ear and played with Frank Donaldson Guitar Group as a student and eventually a teacher, all while only a Freshman at Holy Cross High School in New Orleans. Dan grew up with constant Cajun Music being played in the household by family. Dan would learn to play Cajun songs and sing, with family, " we would listen to records, of all the Cajun greats and we would both practice their style and learn the songs". Dan played first with Allen Fontenot by sitting in, and eventually would begin a band with his family , as La Touche Traditional Cajun Band. Dan started the first Cajun Music sessions to be played at the Original Michauls in Algiers and then New Orleans, along with the Bayou Barn in Crown Point, La. and also was the first group to start a Cajun Fais Do Do at the Four Columns in Harvey, La. Dan was instrumental in breaking the New Orleans Stigma for not having Cajun Music on Bourbon St., for clubs like the Famous Door Club had us play 5 days a week for many months. Now the Bourbon is alive with Cajun Music and overall theme. Over the years Dan, has filled in with other great bands on Guitar, and has had the blessed opportunity to play all over the U.S.A. , Quebec Canada, and in Europe. Dan Often sings verses in English, that John sung in French. Dan's influences in Cajun Guitar playing has been D.L. Menard and Frank Donaldson. Dan Recorded 1 Album /Cassette, under Cypress Records, Cypress Island Stomp. Two tracks of which he helped compose, Cypress Island Stomp and Alligator Waltz. Dan is working out the accordion, and dreams of playing well like John and others he has played with over the years. Dan has played with Allen Toussaint, Chermaine Neville, Fats Domino, Queen Ida, Al Rapone, Bruce Daigrepont, and many others. Dan recently played with a Louisiana Variety Band out of Carencro, but since then has left them in April 2010 to go back to his real roots in Cajun Heritage Music. Pam Galliano Wilcox is new to Cajun Percussion although a rock drummer by heart and hopes to learn many instruments, and sing and speak Cajun French again like her parents. Pams family is from Matthews,La. Georgia Plantation roots. Pam is also a vocalist, Master Flute Player, and coming along on Cajun Accordion.. We will have guest fiddle players, from time to time.
