About
*** My Story ***
Henna, this form of natural and temporary body art, has been a passion for me since I was very young. My first designs were simple lines and happy faces, drawn with a $1 plastic henna cone I bought from the local Indian store. I was intensely frustrated with these lines, but for whatever reason, found it satisfying to sit hours on end, scribbling away. Several years later, some kind friends asked me to do their bridal henna, giving me the confidence to try this 'henna thing' professionally...the rest, as they say, is history!
*** What is Henna? ***
Henna is a painless and temporary form of body art, with rich traditions in cultures and religions all over the world! A henna artist
*** What is it exactly that goes onto your skin? ***
Henna (Lawsonia Inermis) is a paste made from the leaves of the 'henna plant.' The leaves contain a red dye, which is essentially what 'stains' the skin. The leaves are crushed into fine powder, the powder sifted, and then mixed with a variety of ingrediants (essential oils, lemon/tea/coffee, sugar) to create a smooth paste. This paste is then put into an applicator (a henna cone or jacquard bottle), which allows the artist to create fine, precise lines.
The best part? Natural henna is 100% safe -- and temporary! As your skin exofoliates, the henna stain wears off.. which means you can get something new and unique each time!

Influences
My henna style has varied considerably over the last 10 years. Henna, like other forms of art, is ever-changing and rarely ever *completely* unique. Still, I've been fortunate enough to come across some of the best henna work henna artists in the world, both in the US and beyond!
My 'style' of henna tends towards traditional Indo-Arabic henna, which borrows a lot of motifs from traditional 'mughal' Indian henna, as well as large, floral designs with thick lines and negative spaces, from the Middle East and the Gulf countries. However, recently, I've also found a passion for the thin lines and geometric details of Moroccan henna, as well the the unique and bold look of 'tribal' henna!
What to Expect
Sumeyya is a talkative individual and loves to educate individuals about henna, and everything else related! Guests at YOUR henna event will walk away with lots of information on safe henna, henna styles in various parts of the world, henna aftercare, and of course, a beautiful and unique henna design -- overall, an experience to remember!
Stage/Setup Requirements:
Shade [if outdoors]
Small/Medium sized Table
Two Chairs
Additional Notes:
1. Please insure that there is a table [big/small], with two chairs present where I can sit and easily apply henna.
2. If applying henna outdoors, I must be placed in a shaded area, OUTSIDE of direct sunlight.
3. For crowd control, it is best to place table by a wall so that guests will automatically line up against the wall while waiting for their henna design. For very large events [upwards of 30-50 people getting henna] it may also be helpful to designate a specific person who will be in charge of organizing a line. This will facilitate an efficient and orderly process for your guests to receive their henna.
