Ah, Labor Day… You’ve worked long and hard all year, fueled by coffee and deadlines. Well, Worker Bees, we’ve got good news for you. Labor Day is all about celebrating your hard work with nothing but peace and relaxation. In case you’ve been working so hard that you’ve forgotten how to relax, here are 5 ways to celebrate with your loved ones this Labor Day.
End-of-Season Pool Party
Labor Day is the last major holiday of summer. In fact, most people consider it the end of summer, even though the official end isn’t for a few more weeks. So there’s no time like Labor Day for a last hurrah in the pool! Invite your friends and family over for a day of fun in the sun before your pool closes up for the season. Book some beach music or a cover band to play your favorite summer jams while you swim. Hire a bartender to serve up delicious summer cocktails while you bask in the sun. After all, it’s hard not to relax when you’re poolside with a drink in your hand!
White Tie Affair
So, we’ve all heard that you’re not supposed to wear white after Labor Day. Whether you abide by it or not, it’s a great excuse to throw an all-white Labor Day bash! Decorate in all white. If it’s a dinner party, think white table cloths with white floral centerpieces. Streamers, balloons, candles, paper lanterns, string lights, whatever decor you choose – make sure it’s white. Ask your guests to come dressed in white from head to toe. Have your bartender serve up White Russians, White Sangria, and Piña Coladas. This is a pretty easy theme to work with! Just make sure you have a photographer or photo booth available – all white decor makes for beautiful, elegant photographs. Bonus points if you can go the whole party without ruining your fresh white clothes!
Backyard Movie Night
Take advantage of the nice weather while you have it by hosting an outdoor movie night! Rent an inflatable movie screen and set it up in your backyard. No decoration is really necessary, but if you feel so inclined, keep it simple. Try some beautiful string lights to set a nice ambiance, or get film-themed decorations to turn your backyard into a private theater. The most important detail when hosting an outdoor movie is keeping your guests comfortable. So, consider renting chairs or having an abundance of cozy pillows (or better yet, hammocks) available for your guests. Oh, and don’t forget the popcorn! Having concessions around will give your Labor Day movie night an extra special touch!
Party like the summer never has to end with an Endless Summer theme. Invite your buddies over for the best dance party of the summer! Hire a DJ to spin your soundtrack to summer and a bartender to mix up refreshing summer drinks. Have a potluck and ask each guest to bring their favorite summer dish, or hire a caterer to make tasty treats for you! The theme here is all things summer, so ask your guests to come in their favorite beachwear. Don’t be afraid to go over the top with the summer-themed decor (beach balls, pink flamingos, palm trees, etc.). Set up a volleyball net, horseshoes, or cornhole for a summer games tournament, or act like kids again with an inflatable water slide!
Like any summer holiday, Labor Day calls for a good old-fashioned barbecue. Hosting a cookout is pretty straightforward. Fire up the grill, invite over your loved ones, and let the feast begin! If you’re looking to keep the kiddos entertained while you catch up on some much-needed grown up time, consider booking a magician or face painter, or setting up an inflatable bounce house in your yard. That will keep the kids out of your hair for hours and you’ll get a chance to enjoy some good conversation and delicious BBQ with your friends.
It’s back to work on Tuesday, so take advantage of the long holiday weekend with great outdoor party entertainment for you and your friends. You deserve it!
