Pairing Your Services for Valentine’s Day

By Brian Jenkins

Abbot and Costello, Hepburn and Tracey, Beer and Brats. Some things are just better when paired with a complementary and supporting talent. If one is good, then two is better, and when people are searching for the best values for the love-fest of Valentine’s Day, getting creative and partnering with other service providers or entertainers can help you offer a real bang-for-your-buck package deal.

Pairing your services with a different yet complementary offering provides several long and short term benefits.

Shared marketing

Everybody is looking for the best way to get the word out about their fabulous band or exceptional services. During Valentine’s Day, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram explode with happy couples sharing their magic moments. Leveraging the combined fanbases and social networks of your two companies exponentially increases the impact of your gigs and crosses over into new fans and clients.

Shared expenses

Gas, materials, and other costs increase the overhead on every gig. Divide the travel and other expenses to lessen the gig’s financial commitment. The lower expense could also mean a better deal for the client, which creates a win-win for all parties. Taking on a partner in the event means splitting those costs and saving money, which in turn puts more money in your pocket. Capitalism, everyone!

Shared network

Everyone needs a friend in the business. Someone who can connect them to services or talent they need. Sharing and bundling gigs together allows you to connect to your partner’s network of clients, fans, and friends. This means the next time a client asks them to suggest a musician, or photographer, or caricaturist, you’ll be the one they think of and you could get the referral.

Pairing ideas

Like a great wine at dinner, the right pairing is everything. The simplest format is to match someone to create the moment and someone to capture it. Here are a few suggestions from the GigSalad community on the perfect service matchup for Valentine’s Day:

Musician + Photographer

Guitarists, Mariachi Bands, violinists, and other artists are capable of creating romantic and charming settings that are worth remembering. Connect with a local photographer to come and take pictures of the scene that the couple will remember forever.

Face Painter + Photo Booth

Face painters are one of the most popular categories on GigSalad and certainly some of the most fun. Romance should be light and whimsical as well, and hiring a face painter and then mugging for the camera in a photobooth keeps the joy of the event alive. This idea works great for Valentine Day dances, banquets, or other group events.

Classic Ensemble + Personal Chef

The best way to the heart is through the stomach, and many people consider hiring a personal chef to set the stage for a special evening. Consider creating a presentation by including a classical ensemble to provide a soundtrack for the night.

Magician + Videographer

GigSalad magicians are responsible for some of the most jaw-dropping moments and unexpected surprises across our events. Why not present to your clients not only the magic, but the means to preserve the priceless reactions that follow? Especially if you’re being hired to help someone pop the question! Two great talents at a more accessible price point helps everyone fashion a truly spectacular memory.

Here’s a few things to remember if you bundle services with another GigSalad member:

  • Have someone in place before you offer the package to your client. Scrambling to find someone after you’ve been hired is a recipe for disaster.
  • Clarify the financial arrangements in writing. Expenses, deposit, and settling up the balance are all important details that must be expressly defined.
  • Cross-promote and refer. Mention the gig and the partnership across your social media and offer your partner’s name to future clients who may be in need of their services.
