By Matt Holland

Alexis Boyett has created a joy-filled and successful career out of the unique business of making children’s dreams come true. With hard work and passion, she has built a thriving princess party business. Now, she encourages, educates, and inspires children’s entertainers worldwide through her company Bippity Boppity Bankrolls. We talked with Alexis to get some of her expertise for those who want to make a living by being a professional children’s party entertainer.

How did you become involved in children’s party entertainment?

“My journey into the world of children’s party entertainment was far from a traditional career path. It began with a serendipitous encounter and evolved into a passion-driven business venture. Like many, I never imagined myself as a children’s party entertainer, primarily due to misconceptions about its sustainability as a livelihood.

My inspiration for making a difference in the world was ignited during my formative years by an exceptional third-grade teacher. This spark of purpose accompanied me into adulthood, yet I grappled with how to manifest it. My unconventional path emerged from the shadows of my own past, shaped by experiences as an outcast and victim of bullying during middle and high school. The conventional route of attending a university felt remote, so I found myself thrust into the workforce at a young age. Between the ages of 18 and 21, I navigated through a myriad of jobs, none lasting more than a few months.

It wasn’t until I turned 21 that I embarked on a quest to find joy and personal growth. This pursuit led me to Los Angeles, where I initially ventured into the world of professional modeling and acting. In a twist of fate, I discovered part-time work as a professional party princess. The experience was nothing short of enchanting, and it was here that I realized the unique potential of this industry.

My fascination with the craft quickly transformed into a profound appreciation for the underlying business model. The company I worked for at the time demonstrated exceptional scalability, achieving six-figure success. This revelation fueled my passion for the children’s party entertainment business. Not only did I relish the joy of working with children and their families, but I also found a platform to create a positive impact while securing a sustainable income. This newfound confidence was my driving force, prompting me to establish my own children’s party entertainment company in Hawaii in 2015.”

What is the most rewarding aspect of being a children’s party entertainer?

“The most rewarding facet of being a children’s party entertainer lies in the sheer wonder and delight that radiates from the children’s faces when they wholeheartedly embrace the belief that you are, indeed, a genuine princess. One of my most cherished performance activities was undoubtedly the coronation ceremonies I conducted. These rituals consistently garnered rave reviews and left an indelible impact on both children and parents alike. It wasn’t uncommon for tears of joy to glisten in the eyes of the parents.

What makes these experiences even more exceptional is the enduring impact they have on young hearts. I’ve received heartwarming calls from parents years after I graced their celebrations, seeking to replace a coronation ceremony necklace that had been worn day in and day out by their child. These precious moments remain etched in my memory, serving as a testament to the magic of our profession.”

What advice do you have for someone starting out as a children’s party entertainer?

“For someone starting out as a children’s party entertainer, my most valuable advice is to invest in learning from someone who has already achieved what you aspire to. Having a mentor can save you both time and money, sparing you from costly mistakes. Learn from their experiences and let their guidance steer you in the right direction.

The key to success in this field is to prioritize meeting your clients’ needs exceptionally well. It’s not just about the quality of your costumes or the pricing of your packages. Success is determined by your ability to understand and fulfill your client’s needs better than anyone else. By focusing on exceeding their expectations, you will pave the way for a prosperous career in children’s party entertainment.”

How can a children’s party entertainment company differentiate itself from the competition?

“To stand out from the competition, a children’s party entertainment company should avoid fixating on competitors’ offerings and pricing. Instead, concentrate on your unique vision for the company, the impact you aim to create, and the specific needs your clients have.

Seek to amaze your clients with such exceptional service that they become raving fans of your business. Differentiation comes from providing unforgettable experiences and building meaningful connections with your clients.”

How important is social media for a children’s party company? Any tips for those who are unsure how to use social media for their business?

“Social media plays a vital role in growing a successful children’s party entertainment company. It serves as a platform for connection and sharing rather than solely focusing on the number of followers or likes. The primary objective is to build a robust online presence. When a potential client visits your social media page, they should gain a clear understanding of your business, your identity, and how your services can address their needs.

For those who are uncomfortable or unsure about using social media for their business, my advice is to start with small, consistent steps. Develop a content plan and post regularly to establish your online presence gradually. Don’t be afraid to be authentic, share your passion, and engage with your audience genuinely. Over time, you’ll become more comfortable with social media and see its benefits in promoting your business.”

What steps can entertainers take to book and partner with corporate clients?

“Booking and partnering with corporate clients can be a valuable avenue for entertainers. To achieve this, the key is persistence and confidence. Don’t let fear hold you back. If you’re unsure how to reach out to corporate clients, don’t hesitate to seek guidance and support. I can help you build the confidence and skills needed to pursue corporate clients.

It’s about showcasing your unique offerings, understanding their needs, and creating mutually beneficial relationships that lead to more gigs and long-term partnerships. Remember, the corporate world is always looking for exceptional entertainers who can add a touch of magic to their events and occasions.”

How do you select and collaborate with entertainers and staff for top-notch party service?

“When it comes to choosing and working with entertainers, performers, and staff for your parties, my advice is to trust your intuition. Never hire someone simply because you’re seeking to boost your income, and avoid making desperate hires.

If a hiring decision doesn’t turn out as expected, take responsibility, learn from the experience, and move forward. Don’t dwell in regret or blame. Instead, concentrate on finding solutions and only invest in individuals who contribute more solutions than problems to your business. It’s about building a team that aligns with your values and vision, enhancing the quality of your services while maintaining a positive and solutions-oriented atmosphere.”

Your website says, “You go further when you start your business with the end in mind.” How do you recommend following this philosophy?

“To focus on the end when starting a children’s party entertainment business, entertainers should emphasize their overarching vision for the future, rather than being overly concerned with their present circumstances. They should ask themselves whether the future version of them would think and speak in the same way as they are now, with the same fears and hesitations. If not, they should work on shifting their mindset, beliefs, and words daily.

It’s crucial to ensure that the business is not run from a place of fear but from a place of love and passion. By doing so, they can build a business they genuinely love and align it with their long-term goals.”

What would you tell your past self about growing your business?

“If I could share some wisdom with my past self, I’d emphasize the importance of embracing change in my business journey. I’d say, ‘It’s okay if your business changes because that’s how it’s meant to be.’ It’s essential to recognize that things won’t always unfold as planned, and people will bring surprises, both pleasant and challenging. However, these surprises are valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Instead of fixating on your business’s success, focus on the lessons you’ll gain along the way. Remember, this business is just a stepping stone to the many incredible accomplishments awaiting you in the future.”

Alexis illustrates that with determination, passion, and the right mindset, you can make your career dreams a reality. Whether you’re starting your kid’s entertainment business or considering expanding a company, use this advice to do more of what you love. As Princess Merida from Brave said, “You control your destiny — you don’t need magic to do it.” 👑
