How to Plan the Perfect Hocus Pocus Party

By Heather Roonan

Year after year, everyone loves revisiting Salem with the bewitching Sanderson sisters during the spooky holiday season. Whether you want to host a Hocus Pocus watch party or plan a spooktacular Halloween bash, these Hocus Pocus party ideas are sure to be a hit!

Just a Bunch of Hocus Pocus Decorations

When setting the stage for your Hocus Pocus party, standard Halloween decorations with a Sanderson sisters twist will do the trick. Think about how you can incorporate witches’ hats, cauldrons, broomsticks, cobwebs, and black cats throughout your party space.

🎨 Sanderson Color Scheme

Of course, black and orange are classic colors for an All Hallow’s Eve party. But for Hocus Pocus party decor, you can add splashes of purple, red, and green to match the Sanderson sisters’ cloaks. Or take plain items like jack o’ lanterns and add colorful yellow, orange, and purple tops with yarn or construction paper to match the sisters’ dazzling up-dos.

🎃 Hocus Pocus Focus

When throwing any themed party, the devil is in the details. With a big fandom like Hocus Pocus, guests will be thrilled to catch every little nod to their favorite Halloween movie. Put Hocus Pocus quotes on signs throughout the party and add unique accent decor like the black flame candle and Winifred’s spellbook.

I Put a Spell on You, and Now You Eat!

You can’t have a Hocus Pocus party without delicious themed snacks, desserts, and drinks. There are so many creative ways to incorporate the Sanderson sisters into your menu. Here are a few ideas to get you started!

🍿 Tasty Snacks

Keep your menu simple when it comes to savory snacks. Buy some cauldron serving bowls and put various dips in them to serve with chips or pita bread. You can also create brooms with just string cheese and pretzel sticks. And, of course, if you’re planning to stream Disney’s Hocus Pocus, you gotta have popcorn—try some Cookies and Scream Halloween Popcorn!

🧁 Sweet Treats

No Hocus Pocus Halloween party would be complete without serving something sweet. You can stick with more simple Halloween staples like candy and caramel apples. Or, get creative with some Hocus Pocus-themed treats. Some of our favorites include spellbook brownies and Sanderson sisters cupcakes.

🍸 Delicious Drinks

Channel Winifred and brew some potions (without the life-sucking ingredients) to serve with your snacks and sweets. Hocus Pocus punch would be perfect for all ages. And for the adults-only parties, there are all kinds of fun cocktails you can make, like a Witch’s Brew or Hocus Pocus jello shots. You can even make non-alcoholic ones for the kiddos!

🎬 Host a watch party

You can’t throw a Hocus Pocus party without watching Hocus Pocus! Whether having a watch party is the focus or you just put it on in the background, streaming Hocus Pocus 1 and 2 is a must! You can pop it on your TV at home or take your party to the backyard and rent an outdoor movie screen.

🎶 Add some music

Every Hocus Pocus party needs a great soundtrack! Even if you’re watching the movies, have some music playing when your guests are mingling before and after the films. Check out our fun Hocus Pocus Party Playlist on Spotify, or create your own. If you really want to go all out, hire a pianist to play some spooky tunes or a crooner to sing “I Put a Spell on You” live!

🎲 Play silly games

Make your Hocus Pocus watch party interactive with Hocus Pocus Bingo. For 21+ parties, you can even make it a drinking game and take a drink when you mark a spot on your bingo card. If watching the movie isn’t your main focus, there are tons of fun DIY Hocus Pocus party games you can play, like Pin the Tail on Thackery Binx and Mount the Broom (or Vacuum 😏) Relay.

✨ Get into character

Encourage your guests to dress up as their favorite Hocus Pocus character and have a costume contest. For an extra special touch, hire a makeup artist to help your guests fully transform into Winifred and her sisters. Or a face painter could turn people into the creepy—but friendly—Billy Butcherson. To really go all out, invite the Sanderson Sisters themselves by booking costumed characters!
