Whiskey Pass - High Octane Country
A group of highly experienced and passionate musicians who live to play, and whose repertoire includes an eclectic mix of country favorites old and new, as well as originals from lead singer, award winning Independent Country recording artist Christine VanHoy.
We booked Whiskey Pass for a Western themed Gala Event at the Blackhawk Country Club. Christine Van Hoy & her band are true professionals who are very easy to work with. They really listen to what is needed to make your event successful. They showed up on time and were ready to go. Each of them are fantastic musicians who are obviously well rehearsed and comfortable in any situation. They offer an extensive play list, ranging from well known western themed covers to Christines' original music. Everyone was up and dancing after dinner. The sound team scouted the room in advance for setup. They were tightly choreographed with great sound mixing. Breaks were minimal and the band really responded to what the audience was doing. We would hire them again, without question.
Response from Whiskey Pass Band:
Dave and Kris - Thank you for posting such a wonderful review of Whiskey Pass. It means a lot to us to get this kind of feedback. We do hope that we have the opportunity to work with you again sometime in the future.
Musically yours,
Christine, Jim, Len, Bill, Jeff, Dave - Whiskey Pass
We booked Whiskey Pass for a party at a family-oriented club. They worked within the constraints of our use permit and were quite flexible about having to change locations. No drama. They have a great sound, an extensive song list and they were easy to work with. We would hire them again, no question.

Whiskey Pass Band Members:
Christine VanHoy / Lead Vocals - Christine is a Singer / Songwriter who has been entertaining a variety of musical audiences from the east coast to the west coast since her early teens. She has performed in “hot spot” nightclubs from Boston to San Francisco, military bases, large auditoriums and concert halls, town halls and smoky bar rooms.
Since starting her journey into the world of Independent Country Music and Country Music Radio six years ago, Christine has had 12 single releases, and 8 of them have gone to #1 on the New Music Weekly Country Chart, and all have been in the top 5. She won New Music Weekly’s Best New Country Artist 2007 and Country Breakthrough Artist 2008 awards. And in 2009, she was nominated for New Music Weekly’s Best Female Country Artist alongside such Country greats as Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift, and was also nominated for Best Country Single of the Year for “Love Me”. She has won the Independent Music Network’s Best Female Country Artist for the last six years, 2009 – 2014, and her single release "High Octane Crazy" won Favorite Country Single for 2013.
Jim Goodkind / Lead Guitar - Jim learned to play guitar from Chicago blues legend, Harvey Mandel. He was part of the Chicago music scene during the 1960's and the Boston music scene during the 1970's.
Jim has played, toured, and recorded with members of various bands, including those from: The Cars, Bonnie Raitt's band, Van Morrison's band, The Chambers Brothers, and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.
Len Anderson - Len hails from a small town just north of Cincinnati, Ohio where he was musically influenced by the likes of Elvis, Dylan, Bill Monroe, Duke Ellington and The Beatles. While in high school, he performed in cofffee houses and clubs in and around southwest Ohio.
After moving to California in the 70s and taking some time off from music, Len began performing again, and over the last few years has played The Saddlerack, The Rodeo Club, Campbell's Octoberfest, The Rubicon Jamboree at Lake Tahoe and various clubs, wineries and restaurants in Northern California.
Bill Shaffer / Bass, Vocals - Bill was raised in South San Francisco and has played in a wide variety of rock, jazz, and blues bands performing at clubs throughout the South Bay and Peninsula. Most notably, he played for eight years with Dave Crimmen, a Peninsula rockabilly artist with whom he recorded three CDs including one that featured backing vocals by the Jordanaires (Elvis, Ricky Nelson, Patsy Cline, etc.).
Jeff Swolgard / Drums – Raised in the surf town of Santa Cruz, Jeff began playing the drums at the tender age of 12. While learning his craft in the high school marching and jazz bands, Jeff also began playing regularly with Santa Cruz protege, Frankie Moreno (now a Las Vegas headliner) in 1993. For the next 10 years, the band played about 100 shows per year all over the West Coast. Jeff is influenced by all different styles of music, but finds his inspiration for his drumming mainly from bands like The Meters, Steely Dan, Led Zeppelin and Rush along with today's rocked-out country. Jeff has been playing with Whiskey Pass for about 2.5 years and looks forward to an exciting future with the band. Jeff is currently playing Premier drums, and Zildjian and Meinl cymbals.
Dave Magram/ Pedal Steel - Born in Florida, grew up in western Pennsylvania, and has lived in San Jose, California since the mid-1980s. Dave became interested in bluegrass music as a teenager, listening to the Grand Ol' Opry. He played banjo in bluegrass bands for about 10 years, then took up the pedal steel guitar. He was fortunate to have had the opportunity to perform over the years with singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale, fiddler Vassar Clements, Mac Martin, Frank Wakefield, John Herald & The Greenbriar Boys, Charlie Monroe, Dave Nelson & Good Old Boys, and Jake Quesenberry.
Whiskey Pass can and will supply all equipment needed for any performance, and only require electrical outlets close to where we would set up. For larger venues, if there is no installed sound system, we do have a professional sound man to make sure we optimize the musical experience for larger rooms, or outdoors.
We also have access to some great line dance instructors, if that is something you might want to enhance your event.
