Praised for her “lusty” sound and leadership of the orchestra by the Texas Classical review, Diane Yang is a multi-instrumentalist well versed in both the classical and contemporary string repertoire. Throughout her career, Diane has won numerous competitions in the DC metro area and appeared with orchestras such as the Louisiana Philharmonic, Michigan Philharmonic, New World Symphony, National Repertory Orchestra, Texas Music Festival Orchestra, and is currently a violin fellow at the Civic Orchestra of Chicago.
An avid chamber musician, Diane has collaborated with Steve Dann, Vera Beths, the Brodsky, Dover, and Argus String Quartets in addition to the International Contemporary Ensemble. Diane is a founding violinist of the Continuum Chamber Collective, an ensemble that aims to program marginalized works in the DC area. The ensemble served on faculty and held string quartet residency at the Arsahimsa Chamber Music Festival in Lenox, MA.
A passionate community advocate and firm believer in the healing powers of music, Diane works to unite and strengthen her communities through teaching and organizing. Diane is on faculty at Music House Chicago where she teaches lessons and group classes in schools around Chicago. In addition to teaching, Diane has worked in marketing for the Merit School of Music, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Festival Napa Valley, Fifth House Ensemble, and Sound Mind Musician.
Hailing from a family with three generations of professional musicians, Diane started violin lessons with her mother. Since then, her major teachers have included Blair Milton, Stephen Shipps, Aaron Berofsky, and Rebecca Henry. Diane holds a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Michigan, where she was Vice President of Sigma Alpha Iota, Alpha and graduated with honors.
