I am a vocalist who self-accompanies on the piano. I perform jazz & blues standards and my own jazz/blues/R&B-influenced songs. I can provide my own electronic keyboard, microphone, and sound system if needed. I can also provide a trio with advanced notice.
Price Range: $100 and up
Gig Length: 45 - 90 minutes
What to Expect
It takes me about an hour to comfortably unload, set up, and sound check my keyboard and sound system, so I arrive at my gigs at least an hour before performance time. I can either introduce myself or provide a biography for someone else to introduce me. I can also skip introductions entirely and just play music. Depending on the type of venue, I can either play tunes straight through (i.e. as background/ambiance music), or I can emcee myself and speak to the audience directly in-between songs (i.e. more of an active performance). During more active performances, I like to share a little history about the tunes I'm singing by giving information about the composer, meaning behind the lyrics, etc. I am very approachable and am more than willing to speak to people during my performance. At this point, I generally have pre-planned set lists depending on the type of music the venue calls for. I enjoy when audience members clap, dance, or sing with my tunes, but that is certainly not a requirement for me to perform. It takes me about 30-45 minutes to break down my equipment and leave the venue.
Veronica Kott is originally from the Detroit area but now considers Chicago her home. Having both classical and contemporary training in her background, Veronica's music combines technical aptitude with creative freedom. She is primarily a jazz musician, but Veronica also dabbles in blues, R&B, and funk when writing her own songs. Veronica finds it both challenging and rewarding to explore the balance between self-accompanying on the piano while being aware that her voice is what an audience generally focuses on. With songwriting, Veronica appreciates delving into unique poetic devices and rhyme schemes when writing lyrics. She is currently building her career as a solo performing musician, but Veronica finds value, inspiration, and play in all forms of art.
Veronica received her BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Music Performance from Columbia College Chicago. She has been a music educator for 10 years and has taught through Orbert Davis’ Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, in addition to teaching music lessons through a handful of area studios. Veronica has performed at myriad Chicago-land venues and has also performed with the Cerqua Rivera Art Experience and at the Juneteenth Film Festival in Dallas, Texas.
Additional Booking Notes
I need access to an electrical power outlet that is up to code in order for my microphone, keyboard, and sound system to work safely and effectively for the duration of the performance.
