What to Expect
Two Likable guys will be bringing their talent and gear to each event. This not only includes their instruments, but any sound and light application necessary for the gig. Normally, we are hired for two 45 minute sets of Americana driven tunes. Both vocals and instrumentals are dispersed throughout the sets with Bob and Ken primarily on guitar and harmonica. Some songs require banjo, mandolin, or percussion. The songs are meant to be uplifting, Fun, and interesting. Ken is an expert showman and comedian, with Bob as the Bud Abbott of the duo.
More to the point, we will work with you to give you the best value for your money.
Bob Schetter is a California transplant from Ann Arbor, Michigan and started his musical career at the Ark Coffee House. There he honed his skills as an acoustic Blues and Country performer, with lessons from Stefan Grossman and Norman Blake. He joined forces with George Bedard of the Kingpins, and the Bonnevilles to thump out classic country and rockabilly. He was encouraged by Steve Nardella, the Rockabilly King of Ann Arbor, and eventually joined Drivin' Sideways, the Kings of PsychoBilly, as a founding member. Eventually, he formed his own Blues band and was known as Little Red. The Big Blues Band created a CD that is still in demand today.
Skip ahead, after raising a family, and you will find Bob at song circles and Americana gigs in Southern California. A regular at Fiddler's Crossing in Tehachapi, he met Ken Leiboff, the Other Likable Guy, at Fiddler's campsite for the Live Oak Festival. With even more Kismet, he met his future wife at SummerSongs music camp in Cambria which led in turn to the singer/song writing team of The Invocations. The InVocations recently opened for BerkleyHart, and was awarded a recording prize for their performance at the Carpentaria Talent Show this past March.
Both Ken and Bob have placed each year since 2015 at the Topanga Banjo and Fiddle contest.
Bob and his fiance Marilyn host monthly concerts for the Camarillo Cafe Concert series.
Ken Leiboff was born in Torrance CA. and began playing harmonica at 5 (and that's a long time ago). Harmonicas, both blues and chromatic are his most "natural" instrument and he also plays guitar, banjo and ukulele. In high school and college he played drums and guitar with a number of local bands but in 1980 he learned how to actually make money playing music.... Campfire Sing along music ! At this time he was known as "Campfire Ken". Campfire Ken performed more than 2000
"Banjo sing along" shows until 2001 when nasty polyp on the vocal chord put a crimp in his singing activity, So he did what had to be done snf concentrated on playing harmonica in the "rack" (harmonica holder) while playing guitar. This he calls "Guitarmonica" Note: no reason to call it Banjomonica or Ukemonica..
Ken has done countless recordings waitpeople that you have never heard of and is a fine guitar accompanist and lead player and can raally get you dancing with the banjo. Plus....... He is very likable !
