Tracey's voice and songwriting talents are one of a kind, and a real crowd pleaser. And she is a funny girl too, with just the right amount of stage humor to keep a crowd in great spirits!
Each set is filled with a variety of danceable original tunes and cover tunes, with a nice ballad thrown in too! Everything from Etta James and Bonnie Raitt to Willie Dixon and Keb Mo.
Rockin' Blues, Country Blues, Rock n' Roll, and some Country Rock, this band can play it all. With five vocalists, the harmonies are another pleasing aspect the band has to offer!
“We’re not just another Blues Band”, is something you hear from every new blues band that appears on the horizon of the music scene here in the Pacific Northwest, and all over the country for that matter. Every year there appears a new configuration of talented musicians playing the blues, and quite often the sound is very similar to last year’s band. To some extent, that is the nature of blues music. So what makes this band so different?
Tracey Fordice, that’s the difference!
Oh yes, and this band has balls, eight to be exact!
Tracey Fordice (formerly Tracey Bunch) has a beautiful and powerful voice that can rock you like a tornado of trouble in Tennessee, or soothe your soul with a sweet, sultry tone that is as deep as the mighty Mississippi. Tracey’s unique voice, piano playing, and song-writing talents are a blend of creativity that extends beyond many of the women in blues currently performing throughout the Portland blues scene. Not only that, but she has been performing professionally throughout the Pacific NW for over 40 years! Her CD, “Long Hard Day” is a collection of outstanding original material, and it is produced in the highest quality; engineered by grammy winning recording engineer, Dean Baskerville (Soak up the Sun-Cheryl Crow).
Oh yea, what’s up with those 8-Balls?
Well for starters, you have Randy Yearout on Guitars and Vocals. Randy, the founding member of the North Portland band NoPoMoJo, is a gifted multi-instrumentalist and talented songwriter, capable of crafting witty and catchy songs in a variety of musical styles that cross the roots and boundaries of blues, folk, jazz, rock, and country. Three years ago NoPoMoJo released their CD entitled “Fallen Angels” and Greg Johnson, President of the Cascade Blues Association gave it a highly favorable review.
Now, as we said, there are 8-Balls, so there are still six balls to go!
Also from the NoPoMoJo band, Johnnie Corrie on Drums and Vocals. Mr Corrie has experience with many bands throughout the Pacific NW, including the Margo Tufo Band,Gary Small and the Deacons, Dover Weinberg Quartet, Robbie Laws Band, and also Lloyd Allen and the Cannonballs. It’s not uncommon to see Johnnie filling in on the drums with many of the best blues bands around. His smooth and swinging, yet rockin’, drum style is what drives the 8-Balls. In addition, Johnnie also has a solid voice and is able to deliver the goods with harmony or lead vocals.
Newest member of the 8-Balls is Steven Mils on bass, vocals, and drums. Steven is a multi_talented musician playing drums, bass, guitar, and vocals.Steven attended courses at Berklee School Of Music in Boston before setting off to find his sound. He did a three year stint with blues great Eddie Kirkland before moving to Florida.Steven has played with The Coasters, The Drifters, The Shirelles, and the Tokens,as well as a long stint with South Fla. blues sensation Big Mama Blu. After moving to North Fla,Steven Played with Local blues great Greg Baril, Guitar Redd , and many local bands, as well as fronting the band Smokestack. Steven also toured the U.S. with the late Dru Lumbar, in both Dr. Hector and the Groove Injectors, and the reformed Grinderswitch, of which Dru was a founding member in the 1970s. Now living in Portland, Steven is a great addition to the band.
Whether barrel-housing in the juke joints and road houses of the Pacific Northwest, or playing on the big festival stages, Tracey Fordice and the 8-Balls can deliver Rockin Blues and Soulful Ballads utilizing a broad repertoire ranging from Etta James to Bonnie Raitt and Willie Dixon to J.J. Grey and Mofro. With a contemporary delivery of traditional blues standards, striking covers of up and coming new artists, and the awesome creative power of original song material, this is NOT just another Blues Band.
