Tom Lattanand is a multifaceted guitarist, composer, and music producer who resides in Oakland. His dynamic, multilayered, and percussive solo guitar playing creates a sound much bigger than one might expect. His guitar compositions are both intricate and high energy, while drawing from a wide range of musical styles. A steady presence in the Bay Area music scene since 1998, he has collaborated with a long list of artists, while he currently performs in the afrobeat/funk group Albino and leads the electro groove project Root Logic.
In addition to performing original music with his various groups, Tom is available to play traditional classical guitar for any event.
Tom is both talented and wonderful to communicate with. He shared an extensive song list and was also open to preparing a few new songs based on personal requests. My guests really enjoyed his performance during a daytime garden party. He also extended his time with us based on the flow of the party. I can't recommend him enough!
Response from Tom Lattanand:
It was my pleasure to play your party! You and your guests were wonderful, and I'm happy to have been a part of your birthday celebration.
Tom was the perfect musician for our art event. He was very thorough and played a perfect variety of songs at the perfect sound level for the type of event that we were hosting. Loved his originals. Thank you, Tom, for the great work!
Tom was on time, very kind and performed amazingly!! I would for sure hire him again.
Tom provided classical guitar music to our house warming party. Everyone in the party loved his playing and music and all went to him and me to complement how nice it was that he added to our party. We like classical guitar very much and Tom's performance is as good as we ever heard. Our 3 years old son also loves Tom and had a great time with him. Highly recommended to anyone who love guitar music and want to take your event to the next level.
Tom was great, perfect for the event -- many compliments on him throughout the evening. Highly recommend him
I selected Tom from four candidates based on his website's videos. He arrived early for the graveside service, enabling us to make final arrangements with the family, played very suitable music during the ceremony (contemplative not overly mournful), and followed us to the home reception - where a slight upbeat shift in the music was a perfect transition to the reception for family and friends. Tom was amiable, flexible, and an excellent musician. We recommend him highly!
Tom played beautifully for a small private event. I booked him to play as a Christmas present for my dad. Tom promptly responded to my posts and was very flexible with dates/times. He is very talented and personable and his music created a peaceful environment. My dad was blissfully in awe and could not stop talking about how much he enjoyed the experience. I highly recommend booking with Tom!
Tom played at a small holiday house party. His music was absolutely beautiful and perfect for the occasion. We HIGHLY recommend Tom for bring a festive lovely atmosphere to any gathering.
Tom is a brilliant musician and a conscious soul who cares deeply about getting things just right. I enjoyed creating art with him and hope to work with him again.
I much appreciated his schedule flexibility because I was under the gun schedule-wise. I was highly stressed and Tom was an island of cool, calm sanity - when he says "We'll get it done," you believe him. I definitely got my money's worth (and more).
Tom was a total pro from the beginning and extremely easy to work with. He ran the sound for my album release show at a church in SF. Very skilled at sound and all setup needs. Easy going, knowledgeable and very nice. I'd recommend him to anyone!
Tom was great, excellent guitar player...this coming from a musician mind you. Tom put his heart into my need and it showed in his playing and talking with him, my fiance was overwhelmingly surprised, happy, and emotional. She too was happy that I chose Tom for my proposal...I will use Tom again, and will refer him to anyone in search of talent...he was great!!!
Tom’s classical guitar performance added wonderful ambiance to our party and everyone enjoyed his music.
I was very impressed by his music. He is absolutely amazing. He showed up early, set up and got right to work. He had his own music stand, microphone and speaker. I kept asking if he needed anything and he was always cordial. Great choices of music. Very VERY happy with the evening. I will definitely keep him in my list of contacts for future events.
We needed a sound man at the last minute for 6 nights and Tom came in and made the work look effortless. It was easy to communicate with him and I hope we get to work together again!
Tom Lattand played wonderful guitar music for my Mom's 60th Birthday Party! He helped to make the event elegant and enjoyable! The guests were all so happy with the music, too! Tom was timely and professional, too.
Tom is amazing. Our brother in law was sick and in the hospital. We booked Tom to play on very short notice. Lifted our brother in laws spirit with his music! Thank again Tom! Jim and Diane Dunigan
Tom was amazing!
He was super easy going, even played outside in 100+ weather with no complaints. Everyone really enjoyed the music. One comment from a guest was that he thought that the radio was on. That's how professional sounding Tom was. The music was just the right volume and EVERYONE at the party enjoyed him.
This was for my one year olds first birthday party. We hired Tom because our son loves, loves, loves music. Unfortunately he was asleep for most of it, but once he was awake he showed interest in the guitar. Tom even let him strum the strings on the guitar. My son played a whole song while Tom held the chords to the song... hehe. Just so patient! Tom was also welcoming to guest as well.
Tom showed up on time, and before the event was very easy to communicate with.
I highly recommend Tom. We will definitely be contacting him in the future.
Thanks Tom, you rock!!!
With only a short time to go before my event began, a terrible hum developed in my sound system. My audio signals are transmitted wirelessly, and the problem was an interfering rf signal. The problem was beyond my ability to solve. Tom fixed it, just in time!
Tom was amazing, the hit of our party. He was prompt and respectful, his music was beautiful . I plan on hiring Tom again in the future.
Tom showed up on time, looked very professional, helped out by letting us borrow his microphone when ours wasn't working. He is a phenomenal guitar player and set the atmosphere for the party. Would definitely hire again. Thanks Tom!
Tom not only showed up on time, but he played wonderfully. He took the time to learn some of our favorite songs!
Tom is an exceptionally talented guitarist. He provided a therapeutic and relaxing arrangement of songs.
My nonprofit had a fundraiser/social event, at which Tom played, and I couldn't have been happier! Tom was punctual, professional, and overall, a great guitar player. If you need someone to play your event or party, pick Tom.
Tom did a fabulous job playing for our volunteer appreciation lunch. Every one is still raving about him. We are anxious to have him back again.
We had a big 50th birthday party, and went with a Game of Thrones theme, and I had no idea who to hire for the right music for our party. I looked through the gigsalad musicians, and came upon Toms ad. He looked like a musician to explore. I needed someone to adapt to the changes in our party, from "background music" to more up tempo as the party energy climbed. Tom and his buddy "Cello Joe" conformed and took us to the right place. They're multi talented, easy going, and as soon as I can have another big party, I'm going to grab them again. Everyone loved the music!! They're very professional and great guys!
They're the right musician for ANY occasion.
Tom was wonderful to work with! He was fast at communication, and answered all my questions throughout the booking process. On the night of, he arrived early despite traveling from Oakland to San Jose during rush hour. His music was a beautiful background to the conversations during cocktail hour and dessert at our corporate event. We would be thrilled to recommend him to others and to work with him again.
Tom is an unusually talented guitarist. Love his classical and original music. He is also very professional: contacted me ahead of time to solidify plan and to get dress code right. He was on time and was flexible about format and set up.
I recommend him highly.
Tom was the guitarist for our wedding and did a wonderful job. Was very responsive to emails ahead of time, and the music was perfect. Would highly recommend.
Tom arrived right on time, ready to perform, sounded amazing the whole time, guests loved it! :) So glad to have met him and have him as a resource for future events at our winery! Thanks Tom!
We booked Tom to play at the opening of our wine tasting room. Incredible, is the word to describe his music. Looking foreword to having him back.
We just wrapped up our Annual Fall Festival at Real Food Company in San Francisco, we had two locations that were busy with product demos, raffles an abundance of fall's bounty. Tom was hired to provide an acoustic respite outside the stores and did just that. His talent hooked people in and you could see people relaxing, enjoying, smiling and digesting all the information they had just learned. He was on time - and was willing to stay a little later than anticipated. We also loved that he just extremely mellow and easy to be around. His sound and technique are just beautiful and was a perfect fit for what we were looking for. Thumbs up all the way around. Thanks Tom!!
Tom Lattanand played for a pre-dinner cocktail party on October 3rd. I was extremely pleased with him in every aspect. My party included quite a few musicians, and it was important for me to have a guitarist that was thoroughly professional in manner and performance. Tom certainly filled the bill. I received many, many comments from the guests regarding the quality of his playing. I couldn't have asked for a better choice!
Tom was perfect for our party. Considerate, thoughtful and friendly, he was perfectly prepared and professional throughout. His music is wonderful to listen to and provides the perfect background. Tom was also flexible to our needs and requests. His music is beautiful and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.
Keeping alive the blood, beauty, and desire in his music and playing, Tom Lattanand expresses a unique voice as a guitarist, composer, song writer, and producer. His 2011 release, the entirely instrumental solo guitar album Stone Seat View, is a fluid, cohesive piece—combining the raw unpredictability of emotion with the felt sense of patterns in nature: rings, whorls, knots.
Employing a mix of a finger style technique and percussive rhythms to the steel string acoustic—Stone Seat View utters simultaneous melodic voices with dense sonic textures from a single instrument. Many of the compositions were born from place-based improvisations; pitch-black portraits of the desert and open sea. Moody as a storm coming, or lava cooling after fire. Watching Lattanand perform solo, one has the sense that he is engaged in a duet with the unseen, playing a language in which he is endeavoring to name his own sound.
The raw and subtle solo repertoire developed as a contrast to Lattanand's other various musical endeavors. The Oakland based band Ettie Street Project showcases a tech savvy musicality and virtuosity. An array of tools at their disposal, Ettie Street Project utilizes loopers and synths within multilayered compositions. In ESP, Lattanand plays electric guitar with a Hendrix-like intensity, mixing in funk rhythms, while balancing dissonance with soul. His blues playing is undeniably powerful, yet he is not afraid to explore complex harmony. The deep whispery quality of his vocals adds the intimate human element over the groove. Ettie Street Project showcases the multidimensional aspects of Tom as a musician and composer in the band setting. The overall sound is powerful, ambient, bluesy, danceable, and textured.
In 1977, 1 year old Tom Lattanand moved with his family from Thailand to the United States. Years of classical piano lessons segued, at age 11, to the guitar. He was a teenager who listened to hair metal, classing rock, and the 'alternative' bands of the first Lollapalooza festivals. College was focused on studying classical guitar and composition, while listening to music in the likes of Stravinski, Bach, Mozart, Miles Davis, and Coltrane. Tom moved to San Francisco in 1998 to meet up with close musician friends and further etch his path. After many years firmly rooted in the Bay Area, Tom continues to practice a musical nomadism, allowing him to collaborate with artists of all stripes and grooves.
