Red White & Bluegrass
Red White & Bluegrass from Conway, SC is back! The group has been absent from the Bluegrass field for 16 years. The family had to leave the Bluegrass field in 1993 due to an accident to one of the girls. Gwen fell crushing both of her ankles and could not stand for several years. In 1996, Red had suffered a heart attack and a light stroke and could not continue to play. Because of Red and Gwen%u2019s health, they had to lay down the instruments. The family wanted to continue singing and had decided to cross over to Southern Gospel field. For the past sixteen years they have enjoyed traveling and singing Southern Gospel music. Red past away in January 2000 and the family continued singing for the Lord. During the past four years, their families and friends were encouraging them to go back to their roots. Gwen%u2019s son Chris wanted to join the group. In September 2008, Chris started learning to sing harmony and playing the dobra. During this time the family ran across an old friend, Randy Smith. He had picked with the group for several months in 2009 and together, they have created a good sound. In 2010, Josh Greene began playing fiddle and mandolin for the group.
During the time Red, Gwen, and Barbara traveled the Bluegrass circuit, they have been to Nashville and picked for Fan Fare. They have picked with the best of the best. The greats like Bill Monroe, Jim and Jesse, The Osborne Brothers, The Lewis Family, Mac Wiseman, Ralph Stanley, Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs, Carl Story, Lost and Found, Seldom Scene, Toni Rice, Third Tyme Out, Dale McCory, Larry Sparks, and Ronnie Doyle Lawson. J. D. Crowe and many others. Red and the girls were known for hard-driving bluegrass and close family harmony. Gwen and Barbara were some of the first women vocalists to be introduced to Bluegrass field. Red White & Bluegrass travel up and down the east coast picking the music they loved the most. %u201CBluegrass%u201D! Red and the girls had made many friends and memories over the years in the industry. Picking up the instruments and running into these friends has stirred up a joy inside that has long been calling.
Now, with the additions of Chris Holmes, Randy Smith and Josh Greene, Red White & Bluegrass is excited to announce that they are back to their roots. %u201CBLUEGRASS%u201D! The group consists of Gwen, guitar; Barbara, bass; Chris, dobro; Randy, banjo; and Josh Greene, fiddle.. They are still known for hard-driving bluegrass and close family harmony! We invite you to come out and listen to our family when we are in your area. We would be excited to see our old friends and would be honored to make many new ones. God bless you until we meet again.
