A passionate ambassador of the classical guitar, Liel Amdour is committed to sharing the music of the guitar with audiences everywhere. The 2018 recipient of the Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award, a nation-wide Canadian award, and a two-time recipient of the British Columbia Arts Council Scholarship Award for Promising Young Artists in 2013 and 2014, Ms. Amdour regularly performs as a soloist in diverse settings and receives frequent praise for her expressive performances and charismatic presence. She has completed her Bachelor's of Music degree at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada and she is currently completing her Master's of Music degree at the Chicago College for Performing Arts at Roosevelt University.
Dedicated to presenting her music to audiences previously unfamiliar with the classical guitar, Ms. Amdour performs in both traditional and unconventional venues. Notable engagements include recitals at the Chicago Latin American Guitar Festival, the Righteous Among the Nations Ceremony in Vancouver, the Vancouver Classical Guitar Society Emerging Artists Series, the Home of the President of the University of British Columbia, the Ben Steinberg Award Recital in Toronto, the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s 100th Anniversary Celebration, and the Performing Arts Mosaic in New York City, among others. Past engagements include performances for the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Society, Vancouver International Children’s Festival, Odessa Society, Vancouver Russian Music Festival, Vancouver Asian Film Festival, IGNITE! Youth Festival, as well as frequent appearances at corporate, non-profit, community and gala events. Ms. Amdour has also been performing in numerous health-care facilities and senior-homes as a Health Arts Society Performing Artist in an effort to empower fragile audiences with the healing powers of music.
Devoted to the journey of refining her art and excited by the thrill of new challenges, Ms. Amdour has participated and won awards in numerous local and international guitar festivals and competitions, including the Vancouver Kiwanis Music Festival, the Canadian Music Competition and the Guitar Foundation of America Convention and Competition. Ms. Amdour has also performed in masterclasses and taken lesson with many of the world’s most acclaimed classical guitarists, including Roland Dynes, Sergio Assad, Denis Azabagic, Irina Kulikova, Grisha Goryachev, March Teicholz, Jonathan Leathwood, among many others.
Born in Be’er Sheva, Israel in 1995, Ms. Amdour fell in love with the guitar at the age of 11. She began her studies with Anna Saharova and Ivan Dimitrov, and later with Dr. Daniel Bolshoy at the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra School of Music and the University of British Columbia. Ms. Amdour currently completes her Master’s of Music degree with guitarist Denis Azabagic at Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts.
Notable awards include the University of British Columbia School of Music Director’s Graduation Award for Citizenship (2018), Tom Lee Music Excellence Award (2012), the Mildred Johnson Music Scholarship (2013), the Vancouver Kiwanis Society Most Promising Artist Award (2013), and the John S. Chappell Memorial Scholarship (2014). Recent scholarships include the Gloria Miner End Music Scholarship and the Dean’s Award Scholarship from the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University (2019).
