The Blue River Jazz Band plays Americas’s traditional, classic, “hot” jazz and swing music from the early 20th century.
We feature fabulous music from New Orleans, along with songs written and made famous by great jazz artists like Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Fats Waller and much, much more.
Music of the “Roaring 20s” for “Great Gatsby” themed weddings, birthday parties etc, as well as classic swing dances, are a definitely a specialty of The Blue River Jazz Band.
We have wonderful concert programs and themes that provide enjoyable music with fascinating facts, stories, and fun anecdotes about the songs and the musicians that made them famous.
I've had this group in my concert series for several years now. Not only are they incredible musicians and performers, but they're also great people who love what they do. Very professional and lots of fun! I highly recommend them!

What to Expect
"The Blue River Jazz Band", led by Chris Coulter, are professional musicians with well over 30 years experience! We perform a vibrant, happy, upbeat mix of classic early jazz music. Instruments featured include soprano, tenor, C Melody saxophones, piano, acoustic bass and drums ( occasionally washboard!), along with vocals . We perform in several combinations of instrumentation (duo, trio, quartet, quintet, and classic sextet with trumpet and trombone added) to suit your needs and budget (our fee is quite reasonable), and all are available to provide fun, live, high-quality entertainment!
It creates such a wonderful ambiance. Think: "Great Gatsby" , "Some Like It Hot", Boardwalk Empire", as well as the sounds of New Orleans, all combining to present/provide a terrific musical experience for a concert, social event, celebration, and more. We are also pretty snappy dressers!
Hi to all Live Music Supporters,
The Blue River Jazz Band would like to present live, acoustic music at your next concert series, arts event, or function. I know we can play some wonderful music for you. We feature America’s great, traditional, classic hot jazz music of New Orleans, and early swing, with artists and composers such as Louis Armstrong, Fats Waller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, George Gershwin and many more. It is such fun music to enjoy, dance, and relax to.
Our band has an extensive amount of playing experience, and we have been performing in the area for over 30 years.
I recently got back from New Orleans after having performed there, and would love to bring this happy, vibrant jazz music to my Connecticut home state.
After playing a recent concert in October, the folks there said “We can’t wait for your next performance here. Let us know where you’re playing next!” (Richter Arts Association in Danbury, CT.)
Please let me know how we can come and present some entertaining music for you!
Additional Booking Notes
We operate quite simply and require only a flat stage area, but in situations needing a level of adequate amplification we'd need an electric outlet readily accessible. If outdoors, we need to have some type of cover i.e. tent, awning, adequate overhang. If amplification is need we have our own small PA system.
