The concept of Tangled Earth was created in September, 2013 by Stephen Homola on bringing back to Louisville a harder edge of music beyond the typical cover based bands. After several months of searching for the "right" mix of musicians with many rough starts, Darrel Estep on Guitar, Brad Chamberlain on Bass, and Stephen Homola on Drums. It took several months to find the right vocal/front man in Guy Hook to achieve the sound that would highlight our talents and musicianship.
It finally came together in January, 2014.
Tangled Earth's name is derived on our social, political, and personal expressions that our planet and God's creation has been damaged and abused by it's occupants and "stewards" to manage the gift afforded to all who "should" be blessed to live a life of total nondiscrimination, peace and harmony. We are also advocates to end the abuse that has been created to our environment and political greed that serves an arrogant self-purpose way of avarice and self-interest.
On February 17, 2014 creative differences arose and Darrell Estep left Tangled Earth to pursue a different musical direction.
Steve approached Mark Braun to take on the role of lead guitarist. Steve and Mark go back 20 years in another musical collaboration. Mark has extensive experience on stage and the fit was just natural that these two musicians rekindled their desire for another musical collaboration.
The very first rehearsal was on February 19, 2014. Mark was introduced to the other members of the band, Brad Chamberlain (bass) and Guy Hook (vocals). The fit was natural and so at ease for all. What was supposed to be an hour audition turned into a three hour jam fest! Just about all the material on our set lists were covered with even some unexpected new material.
Mark was offered the position as lead guitarist. We were not sure we actually had him until he contacted Steve when he got home and was pumped to be a part of Tangled Earth.
After about three months Brad had to relocate for a job opportunity in Northern Kentucky and Mark considered different options. Tangled Earth took a six month hiatus to regroup and consider options. Steve Homola advertised auditions for a new guitarist and bass player. We continued to focus on being independent and wanted a strong trio to back Guy on vocals. We gained Jerry Bragg on guitar and Brandon "Boomer" Purcell on bass.
Rehearsals began again in September, 2015. The band accomplished a great compliment of originals, unique arrangements to covers and purity in some of the cover music we accrued in our set list of over 50 songs. However, as life goes in a band, we suffered another loss with Jerry, who had to leave the band because of severe medical reasons in November.
The guitarist position was quickly remedied, however. We gained the skills of Jack Wininger. Jack was in search of a band with our style and chops. Jack quickly filled the need almost immediately. Our music was right down Jack's wheel house.
Rehearsals were intense for three months until we were confident that our music was not only consistent with our values, but would be an exhilarating form of entertainment to our audience. We began booking in January, 2016.
We are encouraged with a growing and eager fan base waiting for us to "get out there" and start playing significant venues and shows.
On June 12, 2016 the band joined together for it's business meeting. We reviewed where we have been, where we are, and where we want to go forward. We have set some guidelines on basic principals and discussed our recent live performances. After significant discussion, Guy Hook decided to leave the band and pursue other musical options.
Tangled Earth is adding another guitarist and changing our vocalist duties. We will continue to be an aggressive, progressive, alternative rock band. We also will remain a four piece ensemble. We are knitting into a fine tune, live entertainment project that is directed to a live resource for our fans. Standby as we hone our music that we guarantee to please!
After several auditions; On August 14, 2016, Tangled Earth brought on board as its lead vocalist/frontman, Bobby Conner. We began rehearsing on August 21, 2016 and immediately knew that Bobby fit the bill and what we were striving. He immediately became part of the Tangled Earth brotherhood and brings not only a strong vocal talent, but a marvelous work ethic and sense of humor. We are pleased to progress on what we strive to be. The "go-to" band in Louisville, Kentucky for progressive rock and crowd pleasing entertainment!
Tangled Earth released its first studio album in June 2017. We are excited about this! We are now found on most music platforms including being featured on several music platforms including Spotify, CD Baby, Facebook, and Reverbnation.
