STORIES on WHEELS is an original street theatre storytelling act for the whole family, featuring holiday-themed stories.
Tales are brought to life using beautifully illustrated picture cards displayed in a magnificent miniature wooden stage attached to the back of a unique bicycle. Inspired by a traditional Japanese travelling street show popular in the 1920s through 1950s, Kamishibai (literally paper theatre) combines the best of oral storytelling and narrative painting. You’ve never been told a story this way, before!
Price Range: $200 for parties. Public event: $500/day (3 shows)
Gig Length: 40 - 60 minutes
I have been an actor and family entertainer for years, and more recently a storyteller. I have been performing this show for about six years, and I love it! When we developed the show, we spent time in Japan with one of the original kamishibai storytellers, and learned some of the techniques and methods, and have since developed the show into our own version. I now perform Stories on Wheels at festivals, events, schools, libraries, art galleries, and private parties.
