Songs from the fifties to today--the stuff you know and love to sing along to (and a few unexpected, forgotten tunes, too), sung in a pleasing, mellow (and sometimes not-so-mellow) voice with acoustic guitar accompaniment. Lots of fast songs and slow ones, too.
I can be background music or interact directly with audiences, in jeans and a t-shirt or jacket and tie.
The material I cover includes Beatles, Elvis, Turtles, Cat Stevens, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bruce Springsteen, Jim Croce, Foo Fighters, classic and modern country and on and on.
I also do a selection of American standard pop tunes, as well as songs for wedding ceremonies and receptions.

What to Expect
With Steve Wagner, you get a well-dressed guy with a microphone and a couple of acoustic guitars (one's a spare, in case he breaks a string).
You'll hear a pleasant voice that's mildly raspy at times.
He is not flustered by espresso machines, coffee grinders, children who jump onstage and play with his spare guitar, children who ask for hugs (it's happened twice this week), or inattentive audiences.
He is very much in the moment, smiling, singing a Bryan Adams song followed by a Van Morrison song followed by a Beatles song...
Once, years ago when I was busking (performing in public for tips) at the mall in Burbank, a guy in his twenties stopped and listened intently to my version of Dire Straits' "So Far Away." He then dropped a twenty-dollar bill in my jar and asked me to play a verse and chorus of the song into his iPhone, so he could send it to his girlfriend, back in Michigan.
It reiterated to me how much music means to people...how the right song in the right moment can be magic...how people catalog moments according to the music. Though I'd been playing live for more than 20 years at that point, it gave me a new appreciation for the power of live music...live communication.
(And the $20 tip was pretty cool, too.)
Additional Booking Notes
I carry my own small PA system or can use yours if it's more convenient for you. I don't have heavy staging requirements. I've played on big stages, small ones, in bars, houses, patios, in corners in pubs, whatever--it's all good.
