Marie Brown is a smooth jazzy poet who scats with Billie Holiday-esque grace, yet behind her grace is subtle fury.
The San Antonio native began poetry at 10 y.o. to escape abuse from her step-mom.

Marie received a YMCA Achievement Youth Award in 2013 for work with youth, has worked with the NAACP Act-So from 2006 as mentor and judge, taught Creative Writing to students at Alief ISD 2017, is the first female Af. American on The Houston Poetry Slam Team 2002, & is now coach of The Houston Poetry Slam Team
