Joy Thompson is singer-songwriter and vocalist hailing from Toronto, Ontario. She has been writing and performing across the city, from Shakespeare’s Café to Nathan Phillips Square, for over 13 years. She has trained vocally under actress, singer and theatre performer Alison Smyth, local singer-songwriter and vocal coach Brooke Harris aka Gray and New York singer and vocal coach Renee Benson. She attended the Independent Music Production Program at Seneca College in 2013 and trained under John Switzer, Evelyn Cream Alfio Annibalini, Linda Moroziuk and Blair Packham. Joy Thompson’s music is equally rooted in the honeysuckle sounds of Ella Fitzgerald and the mistempered growl of Dolores O’Riordan. She is currently working on her second full length album full of happy harmonies and cutting vocals.
Influences & Inspiration
I am influenced vocally by Ella Fitzgerald and Mariah Carey and Dolores O'Riordan. I am influenced musically buy most genres of music. Currently my original music sounds like a cross between doo-wop and pop-folk. I call it Doo-Pop.
I require an amp, a microphone stand, a sound board capable of hosting at least 3 inputs.
