Shake is an 8 piece coast modern group that draws music from all over the juke box. Featuring an eclectic mix of instruments-clarinet, sax, trumpet, guitar, piano, accordion, drums, bass, and boom whackers-a variety of vocalists, and a surprising selection of swing, rock, jazz, blues, contemporary, and original songs, the group brings together the best elements of a cabaret, dance hall and gin joint. The range of styles allows Shake to customize song selection for each gig and to perform for audiences with a mix of ages. You get a big band sound for a very small price.
I LOVE Shake and the Chantoosies! I have yet to hear anything less than excellence from them, whether it be vocals or the diverse instruments in the group. The piano/clarinet player is amazing! I love the lead singer's satiny style. Not only are they superb musicians, but they are also impressive composers and arrangers. I go to their gigs every chance I get!
I've rarely had more fun in a club than I have watching "Shake and the Chantoosies." This is one of the most unique ensembles you'll ever experience, fronted by a gal with perhaps the single most distinctive voice this side of Sophy Tucker. They are all solid entertainers - Brechtian characters, really - but they manage to keep the music feeling so contemporary you'll swear you're hearing the tunes for the first time. Do yourself a favor and chatch one of their shows. They are as pleasant and addictive as Absinthe, and still legal in all fifty states.
REALLY, REALLY Fun to watch... their enthusiasm is just phenomenal... they have a wide, expansive width of talent... and Shelley (lead singer) has such a great, warm stage presence - she seems truly at home on stage, and that puts the audience at ease. they seem to play classic rock and jazzy standards (and maybe some originals?) but What they really seem to thrive at is Loungey stuff! if you want to see a band that doesn't takes themselves too seriously, and offers a seriously fun time... see this band!
I Loved listening to them while I ate my meal. They kept me tapping my foot and humming along!
I have actually seen this group several times in the past few years. They are professional through and through. They cover oldies and what most impressed me was that each member of the group is having a great time. The lead singer gal rocks! They are part of the party and their versatility keeps the music bright and fresh. They only let you rate a 5 as highest here.. but Shake and the Chantoosies is an ELEVEN for sure. Great fun. Don't miss them if you are in the Long Beach, CA area.
I saw Shake and the Chantoosies when they performed at the Lava Lounge in Long Beach. Go see them if you get the chance---You will be delighted and impressed with this band's performance. They are truly original. Highly professional musicianship, a lighthearted, tongue-in-cheek attitude, great variety of music including original material, PLUS a lead vocalist with a voice like honey!
While delivering a skilled, top notch performance with excellent musicianship and thoughtful song selection, Shake and the Chantoosies never forgets that they're there to entertain. They know how to keep the audience engaged, but can just as easily create a comfortably festive atmosphere. I've seen then perform many times, and I always leave their shows feeling great!
We saw this band play at DiPiazza's for New Year's eve, and they were fantastic. What a great way to bring in the new year! I had a smile on my face the whole evening. Lots of fun and a super talented bunch of musicians. The lead singer's voice will make you want to melt...
