Steve is a very talented roots/blues songwriter and performer whose music fits very well in smaller intimate settings. He plays guitars from the 1920s and 30s and and is a recognized Country Blues artist. Think delta blues meets Bob Dylan. He is warm and mellow, but has no problem bringing a foot-stompin' good time. He will travel anywhere from from the Rockies and westward to play original shows, parties, house concerts, etc. Very prompt and professional. Steve has played many events across the country in Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, San Diego, Boise, Bozeman, Denver, Salt Lake City, Taos, and Santa Fe just to name a few! NOT A TOP 40s or COVER SONG MUSICIAN!
Steve showed up early and played non stop to my very loud crowd, I made sure to warn him ahead time that he was background and not the center of attention, he was very accommodating and did a fantastic job.
Steve has an amazing sound with different guitars to choose from and originals that come from the soul.
What to Expect
Expect passionate vocals, finger-style prowess, and ripping slide guitar. Mississippi John Hurt meets Robert Johnson meets Woody Guthrie meets Bob Dylan meets Pokey Lafarge is the best way to describe the vibe.
Steve Itterly is a northwest-based singer-songwriter who draws from a deep well of American musical traditions to create distinctively personal music that is timeless without being overly nostalgic.
Hailing from New York, Steve ventured to Boston after college where he studied country blues and ragtime guitar with local greats Paul Rishell and Radcliff Thomas. It wasn’t until he moved to Colorado where he honed his skills and began writing songs of his own, pulling from genres such as country blues, early jazz, western swing, folk, and ragtime.
Steve’s musical journey began in his early teens when his father and brother introduced him to Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Robert Johnson, and Blind Willie Johnson to name a few. There was something mystical in the raw passion of the guitar and vocals that moved him deeply.
Steve’s musical style is true to form with his passionate vocals, finger-style prowess, and ripping slide guitar. He has won the Telluride Blues & Blues Festival’s Country Blues Competition and he is a recognized songwriter in his own right. He has shared a bill with greats such as Bonnie Raitt, Taj Mahal, Keb Mo, Steve Winwood, Jack Broadbent, Anders Osborne, and Benjamin Booker.
