Ritmo Jazz Latino is a seven piece group of gifted musicians specializing in the infectious music and exotic rhythms of Latin jazz.
From the fiery Salsa/Afro-Cuban rhythms of the Caribbean, to the enchanting rhythms of the Brazilian Bossa Nova sung in Portuguese, Ritmo Jazz Latino simply does it all!
Ritmo Jazz Latino made our company Christmas party over the top! The music was great. The band created a fun and comfortable atmosphere. Our employees thought it was a nice touch and welcomed addition to the traditional holiday party.

Dr. Walter Barr – Trumpet, Flugelhorn, Flute, Arranger
Bringing many years of performance experience to Ritmo Latino, Walter’s performances credentials include work with Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, Dizzy Gillespie, Gladys Knight, Ray Charles, Sammy Davis Jr., Terence Blanchard, Wynton Marsalis, Henry Mancini, Marvin Gaye, Lou Rawls, Dave Brubeck, Johnny Mathis plus many others. Walter is a Bach Trumpet/Artist clinician and is a Professor Emeritus at The Metropolitan State University of Denver.
Fransisco Mejias – Congas, Bata, Coro
Fransisco Mejias, hailing originally from Santurce, Puerto Rico, enjoys the reputation of being one of the Nation’s top congeros and latin orquesta leaders. His performance credentials include work with the renowned Dizzy Gillespie, pianist Clare Fischer, salsa artist Tito Nieves, Gato Barbieri, Eddie Santiago, the late great Pete El Conde Rodriquez. plus many others. Francisco is the leader of Conjunto Colores, Colorado’s most popular Salsa Band.
Victor Mestas – Keyboards, Arranger
Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Victor Mestas, 2010 Latin Grammy Winner has more than 80 recordings to his professional credits. Victor has accompanied an array of world renowned singers including Julio Iglesias Uruguay/Argentina tour in 2010, Soledad Bravo, Cheo Feliciano, LuisEnrique, and many others. Mestas has performed (as pianist/keyboardist/arranger/producer) for renowned bands in Venezuela, including Guaco, Caracas son 7, and El trabuco venezolano (Venezuelan Salsa All-Stars). Since 2001, Victor has been an endorsement artist for YAMAHA musical products in Venezuela.
Paul McDaniel – Bass
Paul is one of Colorado’s “first-call” premier bassists. Growing up in a highly diverse musical household, Paul began playing professionally at the tender age of 14. His versatility, intimate understanding of a wide range of musical styles, and creative edge keep him in high demand. Paul’s has toured throughout the U.S., Europe, Canada , Mexico and the Caribbean and has performed with Conjunto Colores, Mitchell Long, The Motet and Danny Seraphine.
Cristine Barbosa – Vocalist, Pianist, Composer
Cristine Barbosa’s unique vocal stylings in English, Spanish and Portuguese have made her one of the most sought-after performers in the Southwest. She has shared the stage with Eddie Palmieri, Gato Barbieri, Luciana Souza, and has been a featured artist at Aspen Jazz, the St. Lucia Jazz Festival, the Santa Fe Jazz Festival, Taste of Colorado, and the Cherry Creek Arts Festival. Early in her career, Cristine assembled a top-notch Latin-Jazz/Salsa group, touring Europe, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
Howard Hernandez – Timbalero, Latin Percussionist
A 1996 graduate of the prestigious La Escuela Nacional de Arte in Havana, Cuba, timbalero Howard Hernandez has toured throughout Latin America with some of the world’s finest salsa groups. Of special note is his work with the highly popular Los Conquistadores de la Salsa and La Orquesta Camaguey. Howard relocated to the U.S. in 2001 and has been the mainstay timbalero for the popular salsa group, Conjunto Colores.
Bernard Alvarado – Vocalist, Acoustic Guitar
2013 marks the 43rd year of professional musicianship for Bernard Alvarado. Gifted both as an instrumentalist and singer, Bernard began in a vocal trio with his father at the age of 12, specializing in Mexican Folkloric music. Throughout his career, Bernard has performed in numerous ensembles and was the featured vocalist with the first Salsa Ensemble in a University representing the U.S. touring China in a cultural exchange program. Whether singing the most intimate bolero, or high energy salsa, Bernard brings extraordinary sophistication, energy and creative juices to Ritmo Latino.
