What to Expect
I can cater my repertoire to whatever the event needs. If you need an arrangement of a song for a ceremony, I am happy to arrange it with your approval. If you need Latin jazz for your next event, I can provide that atmosphere. If you need some contemporary classical music to create some warm ambiance for your next gathering, I can make that happen. If you're looking for a rock guitarist to sit in and jam with a blues band, I'm also your guy.
With my single combo amplifier and small pedalboard with EQ and compression, I only need a minimal amount of room. I'll be able to make sure the guitar sounds wonderful in the space and will make sure it's at a controlled and comfortable volume for your guests. Should you want acoustic guitar, I also play fingerstyle classical, steel-string, and archtop guitar.
My name is Richie Smith and I am a guitarist, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist who uses jazz, rock, contemporary classical, and experimental music as my mediums for expression. I hold a degree in Modern American Music Performance from the Longy School of Music and am a founding member of the soul/jazz rock band Gretchen and the Pickpockets.
With all that I do in music, I strive to take materials that are familiar and contextualize them in a way that is brand new. It is my hope that within those new sounds, there are elements that speak to listeners as individuals to invite them in.
My music creates an inclusive environment that relates directly to any listener but demonstrates what is possible with an open mind and heart towards progress.
