I am a 1 woman band-Acoustic 12-string guitarist, with a Southern-Folk-Rock percussive groove, I play a wide variety of Americana, Classic Rock, Country, and Bluegrass covers from Fleetwood Mac, Tom Petty, to Johnny Cash, Eagles, Bonnie Raitt, John Prine, Bruce Springsteen, Tracy Chapman, and more as well as my originals.
I play to the crowd and what they want to hear, I use my looper for drum loops so people can dance.
I love what I do and sharing my talent with others.
Vocally, I have been compared to Stevie Nicks/Fleetwood Mac, Natalie Merchant/10, 000 Maniacs, and Melissa Etheridge.

I am a solo/1 woman band- I can play all covers for up to 3 1/2 hrs or all originals for 2 hrs or a combination of both. I play an acoustic 12-string guitar and sing, I use a looper with my drum tracks and play bass line rhythms while picking and singing the songs, I sound like a duo or trio, people always get up and dance!
I can play quiet, laidback tunes or upbeat sing-along songs. Contact me for more information for your specific event.
Rene is a 12-string guitarist, with a Southern-Folk-Rock percussive groove. She has been crafting her percussive, finger-picking style since she picked up the 12-string in 1972.
A native of South Carolina, Rene Russell has been dazzling audiences with her brand of percussive Americana/Rock for the past 30+ years from Nashville to San Diego, Atlanta to Austin, Texas. Rene not only writes her own material, but performs it with the passion and precision only a dedicated artist is capable of.
Over the years she has shared the stage with Tom Chapin, Michelle Malone, Danielle Howle, and Indigo Girls. In 2011/2012 she was a co-host for BalconyTV Charleston/Behind the Scenes.
In 2015 her song "Who We Really Are" was winner of "In Search of A Song", that same year Women of Substance Radio began regularly playing her songs and she performed at the "30-A Songwriter's Festival" in Ft. Walton Beach, FL.
In October 2016, she was selected to perform at the "Blast on the Bay Emerging Talent Showcase" in Port St. Joe, FL and won 1st Place.
In Fall of 2017 Rene made the career-changing decision to stop playing cover tunes and focus on her original songs. To achieve her goal, she teamed up with Producer Chris Blackwell, to create her new sound with a “Power Trio” focused on Rene’s unique playing style. The result: Rene Russell & the Bottom End.
The new Single and Video were released on April 23, 2018, and with support from Artist Formula, and Symphonic Distribution, she plans to release 2 more singles over the next few months, as well as tour regionally, securing slots in key venues as well as fairs and festivals.
In 2019 Rene was asked to write a song for the (link hidden) in Charleston, SC. The result was “What Kind?” the band performed the song at the annual gala/fundraiser at the Galliard Auditorium that year.
In 2020 during the Covid-19 quarantine, Rene retreated to the mountains of Western North Carolina, where she wrote the album “Dream The World New”. The band spent the rest of that year recording and released the album in May of 2021.
Rene now lives in Western NC where she plays solo Cover tunes and originals and occasionally plays with the band for special shows.
I have my own PA and run my own sound as a solo. If playing outside, I need a covered space at least 15' X 10', at least 1 electrical outlet. I like to have 1 1/2-2hrs to set up, it takes a little over an hour to load out.
