About
Praised by Arvo Pärt as “wonderful,” and commended on his “great sound” by Valery Gergiev, Ron Cohen Mann enjoys a varied career as a frequent recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral freelancer. Based out of Toronto, Ron Cohen Mann is an Orchestral Scholar Fellow at the Glenn Gould School where he is under the mentorship of Toronto Symphony Orchestra's principal oboist, Sarah Jeffrey.
Cohen Mann is a recent graduate of the prestigious Artist Diploma at the Yale School of Music, studying with Stephen Taylor. He completed his Master of Music at Mannes School of Music, studying with Sherry Sylar of the New York Philharmonic, and his Bachelor of Music at the University of British Columbia under the tutelage of Beth Orson, where he was awarded the UBC Medal in Music.
Cohen Mann was a prizewinner at the Orchestre Symphonique de Montreal Standard Life Competition 2014, and the winner of the Yamaha Young Performing Artists Competition 2013 and Ben Steinberg Musical Legacy Award 2015. Additionally, he was a semi-finalist in the Houston Symphony Ima Hogg Competition 2016. His (phone number hidden) season includes recital performances in New York City at Carnegie Hall, Toronto, Vancouver, and New Haven, CT.
Cohen Mann has performed with various ensembles including Yale Schola Cantorum, The Manhattan Symphonie, L’Orchestre de la Francophonie, The National Academy Orchestra of Canada, Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra, Kamloops Symphony Orchestra, and The National Youth Orchestra of Canada in performances at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully and David Geffen Halls (Lincoln Center), Symphony Space (NYC), Koerner Hall (Toronto), Notre Dame Basilica and Maison Symphonique (Montreal), among others. He has toured to India, China, Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Portugal, and throughout Canada and the United States and played under eminent conductors including Valery Gergiev, Peter Oundjian, John Adams, Jonathan Darlington, Alain Trudel, and Carolyn Kuan.
In addition to performing, Cohen Mann is a sought-after teacher and has held positions as an Oboe Instructor at Yale College and as a Teaching Artist at the Yale Music in Schools Initiative.
