What to Expect
I motivate you to overcome challenges and trauma in your life. Not necessarily how to prevent the challenge but how to overcome the challenge. What I would like to accomplish is the ability to teach and mentor a successful way for you to accomplish your dreams even when challenges come. When life knocks you down, I empower you to rise up from the ashes!
I teach LISTEN & U-LEARN: The De-Escalation Process so that you can communicate better with youth in a crisis. So you have a better understanding of what I do, let’s talk about the three main aspects. The first is that it is important to understand that communication can get heated when dealing with youth in crisis. Second, are the things the youth don’t say. The non-verbal cues are important to recognize and listen. The last thing that is important, is to understand you want be with the youth forever, so remember and keep a record of what works and what didn’t so that you can pass it on.
I am Edward “Drop” Marshall, and I love working with kids and being a husband and father to three boys.
When I was in the US Army, I served for over 14 years. During that time, I got injured physically and mentally with PTSD, severe depression and anxiety during my time in the Iraq War in 2003. It took a lot of hard work to overcome these challenges but it made me who I am today!
I started working at a behavioral health facility in 1995 where we help children of all ages learn how to manage their behaviors.
Nowadays I am retired and although I may not be able to do what I used to do as a soldier and behavioral health counselor, there is nothing more rewarding than helping someone else learn how to grow.
I have been a therapeutic foster parent. I have seen many doctors teach how to work with these kids from their point of view, but not many direct contact staff teach how to work with these kids all day long one-to-one or in a group setting. I want to give you first hand experience on what it's like to be out there and do this difficult job every day.
I have been a youth minister for many years and now also an evangelist which gives me a chance to speak in front of so many people every week. I have had the privilege to work in the public schools system as a Technology Director where I learned how to teach and use my skills in computer technology. I have been a tutor and mentor in a college setting for youth who needed help with various subjects.
I am creative, energetic, outgoing, fun-loving, caring individual that is always willing to lend helping hand or offer comfort when needed.
Additional Booking Notes
I am a very personal speaker and love to interact with the attendees. Therefore, I tend to walk around a lot and do various interactive skits with the audience to help teach a point in my talk. I have a voice that carries very well in any room or theatre, so just a regular mic is okay with me. My only requirement is to be able to video the talk for my collection, but my video team will take care of everything with my video.
