Keynote and Feature Presenter
Mark will entertain and enlighten your group and give them plenty to talk about for the rest of the conference or event, and for months to come. Share the value of paying attention to the finer details of the world, though the messages extend beyond the immediate subject matter to community and global interactions. When people realize the amazing stories occurring in the most common places, the nuances of everyday life will be more evident and new ideas will blossom. Mark will take you briefly inside the weird world of the animals who live alongside of us. Stories from the BUG world and beyond will make you shake your head in wonder. "That's amazing - I had no idea!" is the start. A closer look can change the game.
Mark has been sharing the world with the world since he was an over-talkative child in suburban central Ohio. Mark's unique take on our relationships with Nature always provides audiences with unexpected, thought-provoking commentary. Drawing on humor, experience teaching and learning science, biology, anatomy, entomology, ecology, natural history and educational theory, Mark is able to bring synthesized insights and philosophies about the Natural World to live radio, television or online, open-forum, question/answer, seminar, debate or topical discussion panels.
Video and Live BUG-O-Vision
Productions from Mark's extensive collection of wildlife videos heighten the excitement and wonder of Mark's presentations. Transforming the mundane and common into memorable visions of function, behavior and Natural design, BUG-O-Vision will show you the bugs like you've never seen them before - closer than you ever thought you'd get!
This combination meet-and-greet and animal program includes living Arthropods and Mark mingling with your participants in an informal, conversational show and tell, with the only surprises being the level of interest and fascination with the animals in the calm, awe-not-fear presentation style Mark is famous for. Similar functionally to a magician's small magic during a mixer or cocktail hour associated with the main event, but with dramatically more impact! Mark circulates among the crowd and shares opportunities to ask questions about, get good looks at, and even hold some incredible Arthropods. BUG Walk-Abouts include one or more of a selection of available live animals that may include Tarantulas, Scorpions, things that are sort of like Tarantulas or Scorpions, Praying Mantids, Millipedes, Beetles, Walking Sticks and other interesting bugs. Everyone has a chance to get involved and closely interact with Mark and the bugs! This is also a great option for festival style events.
Cooking with BUGS
One of the less explored of all the various ways people can learn about our relationship with our world is understanding better how and what we eat. This is a surprising and tasty experience that challenges common assumptions about our relationship with our food and the culture of agriculture. Mark prepares at least two dishes during the presentation, time permitting, and shares a variety of samples for everyone who wants to try. Mark's humorous, ironic, no-punches-pulled attitude and approach to interpreting these essential natural interactions deliver a take-home message that will make people think about their 'role' on the planet. Is eating something once living disrespectful?
Mark has developed a beautiful and interesting BUG-Observation setup that spans two to three tables and includes custom cages, unique signage and amazing BUGS! This display is ideal for festivals and other "mill around" events where participants can choose to come and go as they please. There are always BUGS out to handle and being shared. The table setups are available as part of any of the other type of presentations you arrange to have Mark come show you the BUGS!
