Bring something specialized and inventive to your afterschool program. Theater classes and performances offer a unique opportunity to highlight the talents of your students while providing important life skills. Our afterschool programs are led by dynamic teaching artists trained to work with children of all ages and varying levels of experience.
BROADWAY BOUND
Using mainstages unique production kit, students will enjoy all elements of show production while learning the importance of ensemble and community building. From page to stage, students receive a breadth of production skills while honing their ability to think criticially, communicate effectively and create without inhibition. This program, ideal for children ages 8-16, culminates in a production of a hit Show for all friends and family to enjoy at semesters end.
IMAGINATION STATION
Designed for young performers, aged 4-8, this class allows students to explore multicultural stories through movement, music, puppetry and dramatic play. Students become cunning tricksters, majestic animals and brave heroes as they go on journeys to magical places they create with their imagination. Expertly guided by our talented teaching artists, students begin to build skills in the fundamentals of theater. At semesters end, students will perform a demonstration including improvised exercises, group theater games and sketches.
COMEDY COLLECTIVE
From Adam Sandler to Jimmy Fallon, students will emulate the greatest comedians of all time! This high-energy class explores comedic timing, improv and wacky characters with ‘gut-busting’ results as students grow in confidence and creativity. Students rehearse and share original work with friends and family in a showcase at program’s end. It may seem like all fun and games but the learning is in the laughter.
SUPER SCHOOL
For those that leap tall buildings in a single bound or keep a close watch on Gotham city, training is in session. While building skills in theatrical combat, participants learn the importance of physical safety, non-verbal communication and self-control. With these tools, students will use imagination and innovation to create original super heroes and wicked villains. Students perform original heart-pounding choreographed scenes at semesters end to save the citizens from Doom! This program is recommended for students aged 10-16.
