She was very professional and was very good at getting the right images that we wanted. A super nice person who was also understanding
Response from M Portraiture:
Thank you so much! I really enjoyed capturing your special day. This is what I wrote on my personal FB page after I got home that night: "Every single wedding I've shot this year has been a union of different races and cultures. This is what I absolutely LOVE about the Bay Area. Seeing all those different faces of families and friends truly gives me a sense of joy."
Honestly, Susan went above and beyond for us. Exceedingly simple and straightforward to book, with rates that are much too reasonable for what you receive! Our photos came out great! Susan spent a couple of hours capturing the wedding party, as well as mingling with our guests capturing everyone! Only heard good things from the folks interacting with her, and all the guest shots look natural. Our bridge/groom and group photos are especially treasured. All the work and planning that goes into a wedding, and in the months/years to follow the most tangible memoir (apart from your spouse!) are the pictures. Can't stress enough how important it is to have a skilled photographer, who will allow you to relax and know the memories are preserved.
Despite my not reading the booking fineprint (please, make sure you do) Susan fielded many requests from me following the engagement. I'm still surprised and ever thankful for her patience, my wife and I could not be more satisfied with the experience and photos.
We've kept Susan's cards to pass out to any of our friends/family needing a good photographer, as well.
Response from M Portraiture:
Wow, thank you SO MUCH. Seriously, I'm touched! And so happy I could be of service:)
Susan was fantastic! We know the pics will be great!
What to Expect
Starting at $200 per hour for time spent at event only (two hour minimum). No charge for travel time or editing/post-processing. Fee includes edited digital JPG files only. Depending on how the customer prefers to communicate, I make an agreement to shoot for him/her by text, phone, or a meeting in person. After the agreement is made, I send him/her my contract, which must be signed and returned to me, along with a 50% deposit. The contract includes all the details of the event (when, where, etc.). On the day of the event, I show up and shoot! It's that easy:)
I studied photography at L'Ecole Parsons in Paris and earned a Master of Fine Art (MFA) from the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. My subject matter includes events and portraiture. I also create fine art images and have had exhibitions of work in Memphis, TN; Honolulu, HI; San Jose, CA; San Francisco, CA; Berkeley, CA; Aptos, CA; Venice, CA; and Oakland, CA.
Additional Booking Notes
In hiring any professional photographer, I think it's a good idea to ask these questions: (1) Does the photographer shoot in RAW or JPG?; (2) What kind of digital files will I get?; (3) Will the photographer edit the photos in post-processing? If so, how many?; (4) Does the photographer color-correct all edited photos?; (5) How will I receive the digital files? In what format?; (6) Will all the photos be in color or will some be in black/white, sepia, or filtered in some way?; (7) If I want prints in addition to digital files, how does that work and is there an extra cost involved?; (8) What is the turn around time for getting the digital files?

Influences & Inspiration
My main influences have been my former work as a social worker/psychotherapist, traveling in and out of the US, and my family. I've been shooting photos as a hobby since adolescence when my father gave me my first camera. I began my formal study of photography when I received a scholarship from Parsons in Paris in 2011. In 2012, I started working as a freelance photographer. And in January 2014, I started working as a contract photographer for a national wedding photography company. I love working for them, as they allow me to pursue independent photography projects on the side.
