Matthew James, or Kriteek, is a Hip-Hop artist. He spends most of his time performing on stage, writing songs, and constantly critiquing his music, hence the name. Kriteek was born and raised in Tampa Florida, and he plans to make Tampa Bay his starting ground for breaking into the music industry. People have defined his work as being packed with punch lines that are cryptically placed inside of classy word play. Or as he proclaims his songs as having hidden jewels in the bars. He got his inspiration for rap music when he was a freshman in high school by hearing a collaboration group called Gangstarr which featured G.U.R.U and DJ Premier. Kriteek spent most of his time before that writing poetry, which had helped him to become a wordsmith in the rap game. Finding his cadence in the music was the hardest part for him. He later found his own voice by first mimicking his favorite rappers: Eminem, B.o.B, and a Canadian rap artist named Classified. From there Kriteek found his own style and began voicing it to the masses.
His first album will be dropping late 2017 and singles will be released out through the year. Kriteek will also be hosting a 1000$ giveaway starting January 1, 2017. This bio will be the initial plug to bring artist and fans alike to further understand who Kriteek is and what he is trying to do. Kriteek has been writing and performing music many years but has only started to make it career as of late. His main goal is bring Hip-Hop music closer to its roots and further away from the mumble rap that we hear on the radio today.
Kriteek has been in radio interviews at some of the local colleges in the area and on 88.5FM which is a public radio station in the Tampa area. He drew a buzz early 2011 in a group he formed with another local Tampa artist named D-Rocca, and called the group Vice-Versa which was later disband in 2013. Kriteek has been involved in battle rap as well as joining the local battle league entitled ETD (Enter The Dungeon) but later decided that he wanted to focus more on the music side of things. The Project he is starting at the beginning of 2017 will be called Pounding Tha Pavement where Kriteek will be trying to build his empire out of Tampa and become one of the greatest Hip-Hop artists, if not the greatest, to ever do it in the game.
