What to Expect
If you're looking for a program of music that could be the centerpiece of your evening, or some simple but effective background music for a mingling party, Kathy Zimmer can deliver! Either as a solo folk artist, a worship leader, or a classical soloist, Kathy will always provide musical interest tailored to your event needs.
As a folk-tinged acoustic singer/songwriter, Kathy could present a mix of covers and originals in the flavor of Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins or Linda Ronstadt, to name a few. Experienced in a variety of performing environments, Kathy could banter with your audience in an intimate house party performance or play quietly and unobtrusively in the background for an interesting alternative to the standard cocktail party jazz. Kathy is comfortable as a solo artist (acoustic guitar and her voice) or as a member of her own band (she normally plays with a cello and a cajon, or hand percussion, in her band--no loud drum kits or booming bass lines to annoy the neighbors!)
As a classical vocal soloist, Kathy has ample experience putting together short vocal programs with a specialty in art songs and early music (think Handel, Lully, Dowland) and can deliver all the popular classical pieces you need ("Ave Maria", "Panis Angelicus", "The Lord's Prayer", etc.) P. S., yes, she's versatile enough to do both folk music and classical music! If you're not sure, listen to the audio samples and be convinced! :)
Raised in a small rural Nebraska town, Kathy Zimmer grew up loving and making music in the company of a large musical family. She learned to play the guitar at an early age and began singing even earlier, as she performed for church services, rodeos, parades and county fairs.
Ever curious, Kathy's musical exploration eventually led her to study classical music, a quest for knowledge which culminated in a master's degree in voice from the Cleveland Institute of Music.
One foot in a simple, homegrown music tradition and one foot in the heady discipline of classical music, Kathy Zimmer now creates music she terms "cosmopolitan folk"--music that can be sophisticated yet sincere, smart but accessible. Country music, 60s girl groups, confessional singer/songwriters, choral part-writing and classical art song--all these influences are present in Kathy's music.
Kathy Zimmer has released multiple albums to critical acclaim, both in the United States and internationally. Her albums can be found for sale in Rough Trade Records in London and New York City (where she currently resides and performs) and online at iTunes and CD Baby. Her newest release entitled White Noise/Sparkling Smile was released on vinyl and digital formats in January 2019.
