Kaila Davidson is a freshman at New York University majoring in Music Performance and Linguistics with minors in Chinese and French language. She has been studying classical, therapeutic, and jazz harp for 11 years and classical and jazz piano for the past 14 years. During her training with Mrs. Lisa Clark, Kaila had the opportunity to go to nursing homes and hospitals, going room to room playing for the residents and patience and eventually getting certified as a therapeutic harpist. The Sky Ridge Medical Center took her on as a member of a team of harpists that go to patients’ room to play harp for them including plying in the ICU and other primary care faculties within the hospital. Kaila was also asked by the St. Luke’s United Methodist Church pastoral team to begin a program with the Windcrest Nursing Home Mill Vista Center for Memory Care. This included giving church services on Saturdays for the members and perform harp and give speaking presentations. She was also hired by the United Lutheran Windcrest and the United Methodist Windcrest groups to give spoken and performance presentations at of harp, outreach, and connection. In her eighth-grade year of middle school, at Aspen Academy, Kaila was assigned an entrepreneurial assignment. She was asked to create a business and present her plan, revenue, and product in front of a panel of judges. She decided to create a non-profit called Harp from the Heart. By recording a play-list of therapeutic pieces and producing many CD’s and Flash Drives of the recording she was able to buy a miniature harp that traveled with her to Crown Point NM. She had the chance to play the harp for the Navajo residents on the mission trip and gifted the harp to the community. Later, she was told that the Navajo reservation was able to start a whole worship band and team around the ability to have and use the harp. As Kaila was preparing to begin her time at high school, she began studies in classical and jazz harp with Ms. Jenna Hunt and Mrs. Ann Marie Liss. Upon graduating middle school, Kaila began her high school studies at Valor Christian High School where she was a part of the Conservatory. She became a member of the chamber orchestra and jazz band, partook in Jurys, and showcases as well was asked to perform for annual holiday productions, open houses, orchestra concerts, pit productions and more. She was requested to play harp for the Rodgers and Hammerstein Cinderella pit orchestra and percussion for Adams Family as well was hired to play harp in Amile. She has also been taught by Valor High School how to do the sound and lighting for various performances including all school assemblies, high school plays, conservatory performances, and various speeches/award ceremonies. Kaila has also had the performance opportunity and was asked to play harp at a popular jazz diner in Denver Colorado, Dazzle. Upon attending New York University, Kaila is studying with Mrs. Brandee Younger as a classical and jazz harpist.
The harp is quite an easy instrument as it does not require much set up or preparation.
There is difficulty when it comes to stairs so preferably would like to bring my instrument to a safe, handicap accessible location as with the dolly and a six foot tall instrument it can be difficult maneuvering tight spaces. Depending on how large the venu is, a single microphone, normally a hand held will be suitable or any other stand alone mic will work to pick up the harp.
The harp is also quite weather sensitive and being outside is a little tricky with keeping it in tune so when doing a performance outside a covered location is preferred but not required but any sort of protection from the elements is necessary.
These are just some of the typical choices of mine including both jazz and classical repertoire. I can do pop and contemporary as well as other jazz standards and with enough preparation time can do any classical selections of your choosing. So always do inquire if it is something I can do for you. I would be happy to send you a recording in advance of your select song choices, with minimal fee, so you can get a pre-understanding of what I sound like and what your event will feature.
