I'm a 30 year veteran standup comic who's been on The Late Show with David Letterman, got a standing ovation by all 4 celebrity judges and the crowd of 2000 on America's Got Talent on NBC, was a regular on Chelsea Lately on E, had my own 1/2 Hr. Special on Comedy Central, and I've done two 1 Hr Specials called "Medicated" and "The Posters Wrong". I'm a versatile performer who has strong clean material and can handle the task of being interactive with the crowd in a very fun loving likable way when needed. Everything including many of my standup videos are available here on my profile. Contact me I'm sure we can agree on a fair price for all involved.
The Camp Ave PTA recently hired Joe Matarese to perform at our fundraising auction on Wednesday April 3rd at Mulcahy’s. We had read excellent reviews and had viewed his clips online. We were very excited to have this addition to our evening. When Joe arrived, he immediately began moving the tables around the venue. He was literally making people stand up and move their tables while they were eating. He refused to utilize the stage and made the organizer move the microphone to the floor. He was finally introduced and was clearly frustrated that he was not getting the attention of the 150 people there that he just began cursing at us, telling us to “sit the f@ck down” and “shut the f@ck up”. This was a room of mostly PTA moms, teachers, administrators and a handful of dads. When the crowd finally settled down out of utter shock at the way we were being spoken to, he began his comedy bit. One of the reviews we had seen commented on how well Joe was able to read the room. This seemed to be the exact opposite of the comedian we saw that night. He began by insulting all of us, calling us old ladies who don’t have sex. He then proceeded to mock special needs students and special education teachers. He didn’t even know the name of our school! Finally we had had enough and someone in the crowd grabbed the microphone from him and asked him to leave. All he cared about was that he was still going to be paid. He was at the microphone for all of 15 minutes. At that point we didn’t even care about the money, we just wanted the show to end. He received his money not even seeming to care that he was essentially stealing from a school fundraiser. We even asked security to make sure he left because even after he was asked to stop performing, he went back to the stage to insult us one last time. It was absolutely appalling behavior from someone who claims to be a professional. I don’t want to see any other organizations scammed by this “comedian”.
Studies show that laughter reduces stress, and for the members of a surviving swim club in Cherry Hill New Jersey, we can all use a little less stress? In 2016, for a swim club fundraiser, we decided to host a comedy night, and lucky for us, we found Joe. Joe performed on a warm summer night at our swim club, in front of a crowd that is, let's just say, smaller then he is used to seeing. One year later, the folks that attended the event are still talking and laughing about how great he was. A comedian who has performed at indoor arenas and in front of much larger audiences, Joe was very accepting of our smaller venue. Numerous jokes were aimed in this direction, but they were well received by our group because we knew he had worked with us to make our event a success. Just one year later, Joe is returning to make us laugh again, this time in front of what is hopefully triple the crowd from last year. If you have not seen Joe perform yet, you probably aren't laughing as much as you could be. Joe is a very funny guy, and a great guy to work with. We thank him gratefully for his support of our club, and we look forward to having him back for a second show.
I've worked with Joe in so many capacities in the past 15 years. I've opened for him and he's headlined many events of mine. Joe's ability to engage the audience is impressive to watch. His material is very funny. Give him a good crowd and he's as strong as any stand-up comedian I've seen.
Joe Matarese is a true professional in every way. We hired him to do a private event last July and it was a smashing success. His quick-wit and well-crafted jokes played very well with our audience. His material was very relatable to our group of adults from 21-75 years of age - which was perfect for our private event/corporate event. With 25+ years of experience in the industry, he brings an array of knowledge and expertise that is tough to match. We were very satisfied and highly recommend him for future events.
We hired Joe to be the headlining comedian for a show at the Craft Brewer's Conference in Philadelphia. Joe read the crowd brilliantly and delivered a great show. We continue to work with Joe and sponsor a lot of his shows in the Philadelphia area. Professional, easy to work with, and a great guy.
Response from Joe Matarese:
Thanks Chris! You guys are a top notch company! Thanks for having me!
Joe joined us for the National Italian American Foundation’s 41st Anniversary Friday Night Kick-Off Celebration and was a hit! If you don’t know, it is extremely difficult to entertain a room of 800 Italians and Italian Americans but Joe was up to the challenge. Our crowd absolutely loved it and Joe’s set was hilarious and on point. Joe was very professional to work with and was flexible during our planning process. We will definitely have him back in the future!
I was the host of a banquet. My audio and visual system had failed. After a tough slog and a restless crowd I brought on Joe. With his own backup gear in tow, he came on and absolutely lit up the room. I strongly recommend Joe Matarese for your event!
Response from Joe Matarese:
Your group of all guys were so fun! I loved it and wish I lived close by so I could join the country club and play in your softball league. You guys have the life!
Joe Matarese was a huge hit for our Chess Team fundraiser. He was easy to work with and gave a great performance. He stayed around to sign autographs. In addition, he went above in beyond promoting the event. He appeared on several local radio shows and gave newspaper interviews. He's perfect for a parents night out and the over 35 yr old with children crowd. We will probably bring him back this year for another event.
Joe performed at our annual corporate event in Naples, Florida on April 8, 2017. The audience was comprised of over 400 mechanical and electrical contractors and their spouses/guests. He brought entertainment during the two and a half hour awards banquet, where we handed out numerous awards and recognized over 50 contractors. The audience really enjoyed Joe's performance. He joined us for a coffee and dessert reception afterwards so our attendees had a chance to meet him as well. Thank you for bringing entertainment to our banquet, Joe!
Response from Joe Matarese:
You guys were a pleasure to work for! The event was top notch from beginning to end! Thanks for having me!

I can perform a short comedy set for your event or as long as a 75min set for your event. I can also bring an opening act that you ok for your event. I can perform as clean as you'd like me to be for your group also. I've been doing this for 30 years so making adjustments is not a problem at all. I can also bring my own sound and lighting if needed.
JOE MATARESE: BIO
Joe Matarese grew up in Cherry Hill, NJ and now resides with his wife and 2 kids just minutes outside of NYC in the burbs. His completely autobiographical act pokes fun at his subtly dysfunctional Italian family, his own neuroses and use of the SSRI Celexa and the ADD med Adder-all improving him in so many ways, life with 2 young kids, and his marriage to a psychologist (his perfect match).
Joe’s talent for turning real life struggles into comedic gems has landed him appearances on the most sought after TV and radio shows including The Late Show with David Letterman, America’s Got Talent (where he received a standing ovation from all 4 celebrity judges and the 2000 person crowd), Chelsea Lately, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Comedy Central Presents (his very own 1/2 hour special), The Howard Stern Show, and his brand new 1 hour special “Medicated”. You may also recognize him from Bravo’s reality series Better Half where he taught his wife to perform standup and she brought home the $20,000 prize.
Joe has hit the stage four times at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival, leading to two development deals with major television networks. Joe’s podcast, Fixing Joe, is available every Friday in itunes, and everywhere else you can find podcasts. Now in its third season, the show's format continues to evolve. True to its beginnings, every week Joe shares a specific problem he’s having in his life in talk show format. New to this season, Joe starts each episode with brand new, under development, live standup on that week's topic, giving fans a window into how his everyday struggles feed his comedy. He then brings the issue of the week to a comedian round table, fields phone calls from listeners who call into share their experiences and give Joe advice, and usually ends the show with some of his classic stand up bits on topic. Over the first two seasons of Fixing Joe, there have been over 300 episodes with guests like Craig Ferguson, Artie Lange, Jay Mohr, Phil Rosenthal, and even Robert Romanus, otherwise known as Damone from one of Joe's all time favorite movies: Fast Times At Ridgemont High. Season 3 brings more of Joe's comedy to his fans while keeping the real-life issues and poignant moments of previous seasons. As always, Joe keeps hoping that by fixing him, you fix a little of yourself at the same time.
I'd prefer if you would provide the sound and lights, but if you can't I can bring my own. I white spot and a minimal sound system with a wired or wireless microphone is really all that's needed unless your audience is over 500 people in size. Again I have what's needed for under 500 people and I can rent something larger if your group is bigger than 500.
