Joanna Tomassoni is a folk musician in the mold of Joni Mitchell, Karen Carpenter, and Sandy Denny. Her melodies wind around a steady, pulsing guitar in a way that is conversational and personal, supported by her agile and emotive singing, a skill honed after two decades of classical training. Her style is influenced by British and US folk music from the '60s/'70s-- honest storytelling and compelling lyrics set against a thoughtful balance of harmonic tension and release.
"Joanna is a brilliant singer/songwriter! Her vocals pull at the heartstrings while simultaneously lulling one into a trance of adoration."-Daniel Grey, United Bakery Records

It was great
I hired Joanna to play music for a recent event. She responded promptly, was punctual and worked with us to find the best music for the event. For our event, a brunch, her music was perfect. Beautiful and able to capture the audience's attention, it was also leaving enough space for conversations between hosts. A great performer and professional!
Joanna was punctual and has a clean amazing voice. Will definitely hire her again. It was the perfect touch for the party.
What to Expect
Singing and either electric or acoustic guitar, either solo or as a duo. Joanna can provide her own gear/amplification.

When she's not playing solo, you can find her singing and playing drums in Americana band The Tumbling Wheels, singing backup for Tasche de la Rocha and the Psychedelic Roses, or singing in a number of professional choral ensembles around New Orleans (notably in the St. Patrick's Chamber Singers and Krewe de Voix).
Joanna was raised in a family of singers, and has been playing music in some form or fashion since she was a child. She has an extensive background in classical performance, including piano, clarinet, and voice (both solo and choral settings). Her classical training has a big influence on her music today, which is deeply rooted in precise yet emotional melodies that range from simple folk tunes to more complex and melismatic passages.
Joanna's music is highly influenced by her interest in folk balladry from the United States and the British Isles, as well as the American Songbook repertoire.
Joanna can provide her own sound equipment and is willing to travel. To book The Tumbling Wheels, you can reach out to them at www.thetumblingwheels.com, or find them on GigSalad.
