A native of San Francisco, James started singing at the early age of 4 while sitting on a church pew as his sister (15) sang in the choir. During his formative years, James had a number of musical influences that include the incomparable Donny Hathaway, Nat King Cole, Johnny Mathis, Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, Mel Torme, Al Jarreau and the effervescent Tony Bennett. As James continued to perfect his craft he studied Smokey Robinson's suave intonations and Luther Vandross’ mastery of presence and delivery. It was not just men who inspired him to sing, he also paid close attention to Sarah Vaughn's smooth riffs, Nancy Wilson's sultry tones, Patti Austins’ nurturing spirit, Minnie Ripperton’s ability to paint a picture through vocal eloquence and Aretha Franklin’s revived soul. He stands on the foundation of those who paved the way with a deeply felt passion to make this life a better place for everyone through songs.
James has worked in collaboration and performed with some of the Bay Areas top musicians. His ability to deliver a variety of vocal acrobatics via his tenor/baritone falsetto eclectics, allows him to simultaneously capture the moment while keeping audiences engaged. This is sure to be an exciting season as James brings back the Cool, the Class and the Love with live intimate performances and heartfelt melodies.
Hire James and make it an event to remember.
