Hop a Train is an original reggae jam-band that draws inspiration from different reggae styles such as dance hall, dub and rocksteady, while stretching out into several other genres including funk, blues, hip-hop, soul and beyond.
Determined to play their brand of fun, uplifting reggae music, Hop a Train is always looking for the opportunity to showcase their creativity and make the crowd dance all night.
The current line up, together since July of 2014, is comprised of members from three bands. Guitarist Chris Knestaut comes from The Elevators, guitarist Brian Hilton and bass player Mark Szekely hail from The Flying Kites and drummer Dave Cochran is from FUBAR. Hop a Train also features the vocal talents of Ryan Nickolls.
The band originally formed back in 2012, when members of The Elevators added rapper/singer Ryan Nickolls. Ryan, a friend of many years to Chris, played regular local acoustic sets and religiously attended The Elevators' shows until one day Chris approached him about joining the band. Ryan agreed to join and the name was changed to Hop a Train. Chris and Ryan went to work writing new songs and playing in Pittsburgh and the surrounding area. For two years, Hop a Train played shows and wrote music until the lineup was altered in 2014, adding Brian, Mark and Dave to the mix.
Hop a Train has been going strong ever since and will continue to play positive reggae jam rock music to make their audience think, feel, dance and have a good time.
