Performing soothing jazz guitar from Sinatra to Sting, Tom Godfrey's relaxed style is a perfect backdrop for receptions, dinners, weddings, restaurants, corporate events, and other special occasions. You can choose to have smooth vocals or pure instrumentals, and because he performs as a soloist, Tom's background music is budget friendly.
Tom performed at our reception/open house, sliding easily between classic croons and more contemporary tunes. He's a great guitarist AND vocalist. That's pretty rare! As billed, he never let the music get in the way of the event with just the right volume and and vocal intensity.
Tom Godfrey has been our go-to musician for a variety of events with the Wylde Center in Decatur, GA. He always struck the right chord for the setting - whether a small Thank You event for our special donors, an energetic fundraiser or a mid-sized outdoor festival. We will sorely miss him and Albuquerque is lucky to have him.
Response from Tom Godfrey:
Thank you, Nicole! I always loved playing for Wylde Center events.
Tom is a complete professional. Courteous to your time and needs. Prompt and extremely competent. Plus - he is an excellent performer! We will not hesitate to use him in the future or recommend him to others.
I hired Tom to play at our Holiday Luncheon. He arrived on time and set-up with no additional outside assistance needed. As an Event Planner, I appreciated that he was very self-contained, since I was still setting-up the event. He began playing on time as agreed and all the guests enjoyed his singing and playing throughout the luncheon. He has a delightful singing and speaking voice. You will not be disappointed, if you hire him. As a bonus, he is extremely easy to work with.
I have booked Tom for two events and he has always performed excellently. One party was loud and boisterious with 250 people, the other was a cocktail party for 20. His music was the perfect sound for both events. The music choices suited the event and the volume of the music was enjoyable and perfect. His playing skills are excellent. I found him to be quite professional in his communications and setup. And an extra bonus is that he is so pleasant to work with - very accommodating and genial. I would not hesitate to book him again.
Tom played at my birthday party on Saturday night. His performance made the evening very special. He selected music that all enjoyed. His guitar and vocal skills are excellent. I highly recommend Tom.
I hired Tom and his band to perform at our 1940s themed Hay Day, a free family event at the historic Hay House in Macon, Ga. Tom kept in close contact with me via email all the way up until the event. They were absolutely great and everyone enjoyed their music. I honestly don't think it could have gone more smoothly.
I booked Tiom for a wine and cheese event that I had. He was very professional and kept in contact with me right up until the event. His music was wonderful and my guests were all extremely impressed with his music! I plan on booking him again and would definitely use him in the future.
I hired Tom to provide relaxing, live holiday music as a background to our holiday party. It's not a huge space, rather intimate, and I needed music that would sound great (without over powering) and mix well with adults as well as young children. Tom was perfect and everyone enjoyed themselves! The warm jazz guitar sounds and his light, smooth vocals enchanted everyone and guests even sat on the floor with their children to relax and listen. In addition to providing wonderful music, Tom is courteous, prompt, reliable, reasonably priced and easy to work with. I will definitely be hiring him again for future open house, receptions and other events.
Tom was very professional, flexible and easy to work with.
Tom played background music at an event for Georgia Cancer Specialists at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center, and everything was wonderful from his clear and quick communication pre-event to his performance at the actual event. Thanks, Tom!
Tom's music was so beautiful on my special day! I highly recommend him for all of your special events...he's very talented and a great guy!
The band was excellent and very reasonably priced. They were set up early, and very adaptable as we had varied speeches and a party that ran over!! Tom has asked about dress code, followed my exact music specs and was very courteous. Our guests loved them and we would definitely use them again!!
Tom performed with his guitar in the reception area of a training for bridal vendors that we held at the Gwinnett Center. His music helped to create a great ambiance and set the mood for the events that took place that day. He was very professional and was well received by the attendees.
Excellent musician. I highly recommend Tom. He's professional and very talented. He provided background music for our corporate event and everyone complimented us on our choice of entertainment. We will definitely call Tom for future events in the area.
Tom and the keyboardist from his band played for my wedding ceremony and reception. The music was absolutely beautiful. He played a variety of classic jazz songs. It really made for an elegant evening. Tom took the lead with no direction from me. He is very professional and knew exactly what to play to fit the evening. He kept in touch with me from the time I contacted him until the day before the wedding. It put me at ease to know he was very responsible. Between the music and Tom's professionalism, it really made my wedding that much more memorable.
Tom played his guitar and sang background music at our event. He was fabulous and very professional. We will use him again in the future.
Tom is one of the most easy going and talented, musicians I have ever worked with. There are no regrets from this hire - he does what he says he will. His pricing is reasonable and he always gives more than you expect. jt
Excellent jazz ensemble. Very tight and professional. Immensely talented. They played all my favorite jazz standards beautifully. Perfect for clubs, restaurants, coffee/tea shops, special events, etc.
"Tea for Two with Lynnette Suzanne and Tom Godfrey." "Classic Jazz in Two Part Harmony." Tom and Lynnette are an awesome duo. Zen Tea Bar customers loved them and we have them booked to play again Sept. 24th at 7pm. They play a wide variety and can play most request. Very professional and talented. Book them while you can!
Tom has a sensitive feel for jazz guitar and his interpretations are expansive, rather than narrow. It is amazing how he can make the instrument sing. His voice complements his playing and he has amazing control. (I lied about the date -- I can't remember.)
Tom provided background music during a fundraising event for a local theatre company which was held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Midtown. His music was lovely and exactly the right accompaniment to the wine tasting and silent auction activities. As a guest, one was aware of his music but it was not too loud or commanding which would have been more of a distraction than a nice addition. Tom was a pleasure to work with and understood exactly what was required. He came fully self contained to event, was there on time, and voluntarily played longer than requested. Can't recommend him highly enough!
What to Expect
Tom Godfrey delivers elegant, understated jazz classics that provide a soothing backdrop for special occasions.
Recently relocated from Atlanta to Albuquerque, Tom Godfrey's repertoire draws mainly from the classic songs of the '30s and '40s. While in Atlanta, Tom performed as a soloist, was half of the Godfrey and Guy duo, and held the guitar chair in the Sentimental Journey Orchestra. Tom served as Director of Music at Northwest Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Atlanta from 2011 to 2017 and then served as Band Director at the same church from 2017 to 2018. Tom moved to Albuquerque in 2018 after falling in love with the landscape and hiking trails of New Mexico.
Tom Godfrey wasn't always a guitar player. Originally trained as a classical trombonist, he suffered a lip injury that ended his brass playing career. After ten years away from the stage, Tom fell in love with music all over again when he received a guitar for Christmas in 2003. As a trombonist, Tom performed with the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band, the Ohio Light Opera, and in pick-up bands for touring acts that included Rosemary Clooney, George Burns, and the Manhattan Transfer. Reborn as a jazz guitarist, Tom now sings and plays jazz classics and teaches private lessons in guitar, piano, and ukulele.
Additional Booking Notes
As a solo artist, Tom's needs are few. The only real requirements are access to power and a nice corner with a little bit of elbow room.
