What to Expect
As a Dance Instructor & Choreographer, I enjoy helping other individuals and groups attain their creative expression. Dancing and Choreography is one of the best ways to help others achieve their competitive / performance goals.
My name is Jenn and I have more than 20 years of Dance experience as a Dancer, Dance Instructor, Zumba Instructor, and many years dedicated to Professional Dance Teams as a "Dancer, Dance Team Captain, Co-Captain and Dance Team Choreographer".
Genres include: Freestyle, Street and Contemporary Hip Hop, Jazz, Latin, Contemporary Dance, Pre-Ballet, Ballet and more.
Fusion*Dance*Fitness is a new phase that was just created,we are literally a "New / Start Up from the ground up Dance Program" in the Panhandle area of FL, which includes: Pre-Ballet / Creative Movement, Jazz and Hip Hop Classes for all ages (Child /adult) all at minimal cost per class. We believe that financial difficulty should not a person's dreams or goals. Visual / Performance Art should be available to everyone!
My Young Life as a Dancer/Choreographer:
I was born in South Florida and began dancing as soon as I could walk. When music played I was bouncing, but I didn't begin formal dance classes / structure until the age 9. At 15 y/o I was a member of my H.S. Dance Team, Choreographing our routines / 8 counts, plus, I was a hard core - dedicated member of a "Street Dance Crew". Break Dancing was literally "Busting Out" everywhere, (the year was 1985)!
Later that year, my crew was supposed to perform / compete at the 1st KAT "Kids Are Talented" Contest. But, 3 days before competition the crew backed out so, I performed a "Solo Routine" at the KAT Contest and won the Award for the "Best, Over-All, Dancer of Southern Florida". There were many talent scouts at that KAT Contest and after I won, I was offered a few, very prestigious opportunities and scholarships, one specifically was for the "American Ballet Academy". But due to family complications and hardships, I was unable to attend and had to fulfill & pursue my Dance Dream & Career in other ways. Thank goodness Break Dancing hit an all time high, Freestyle and Hip Hop followed, which opened many doors. I have been extremely blessed with many opportunities and accomplishments, from Theater, Off Broadway Production Musicals, Professional Dance Teams (for Numerous Sports Organizations), Music Videos, and of course, Dance / Choreography for ALL of the above.
My Life as an Older / Mature Dancer:
As I have grown, I learned after time, that enjoyment beats the rat race, happiness and tranquility beat stress, and smiles are worth more than you could imagine. With that said, I believe in everything "DANCE" for happiness and health. As now at 45 y/o, I myself use Dancing for those specific reasons, "Health and Happiness" Especially since I am a Disabled Combat Veteran, I have RA, Fibromyalgia, Spinal Stenosis / Spondylosis, and even a few more extremely lengthy medical diagnosis that are difficult to pronounce but extremely "Physically Challenging / Disabling Medical Conditions". I have had to over come adversity and Dancing is one of the main reasons I am still walking / dancing today. 6 years ago they said I wouldn't walk without a cane and I may need a wheelchair to be mobile.
Gave me an opportunity to travel to many different countries, in the military I learned that it doesn't matter where you live, where you go, what you wear, or how you speak, (even if there is language barrier), Nothing matters when you dance! Dancing is a World Wide language spoken by all and understood by everyone. During one of my deployments doing medical support during the construction of a medical clinic for an Orphanage in Maldova, It was there, playing and dancing with war torn Orphans that I realized "Dancing truly is the Universal Language of Happiness and Unity". Dancing puts a smile on a person's face, even in the most difficult, dark and gloomiest of times. Dancing may not solve every problem but it graciously helps us escape the detriment of reality for just a brief period. Dancing not only helps the body physically but is emotionally necessary as well. Dancing always brings people together, creating bonds and unique friendships.
So even though I have done a couple of music videos, been a Team Dancer for numerous Dance Teams, and theatrical productions, NOTHING compares to the freedom of your own creativity and the freestyle of true, heartfelt movement. I love being a Dance Instructor and love to Choreograph. But most of all, I enjoy the energy and smiles that student dancer acquires when they learn something new or accomplish their dreams and goals.
As a disabled dancer, (I do not have a disability that is visible to the naked eye), I desperately struggle, DAILY, with severe muscle and joint pain, plus spinal pressure & pain. Some days it is almost impossible to get out of bed but, stretching, dancing, and music help me escape my constant pain and help me to.... "keep smiling".
My near and future goals are:
To Dance and Choreograph as much as possible but, open a Dance Studio encompassing "Adaptive Dancing for the Disabled" as now, there is Ballroom Dancing Competitions for Dancers' in Wheelchairs.
Being around many disabled Veterans & their families, disabled children & their families, volunteering for humanitarian missions in remote, rural areas or inner city locations that are hit with severe financial destitution, I came to realize...Learning to Dance should not cost a fortune and should be available to everyone, no matter where they live, or if they are medically challenged.....nothing compares to the smile upon a person's face when they are dancing. Music inspires all of us in different ways, every emotion possible comes with every form of music, a song can make you sad, can make you weep, can make you sing, can make you feel silly and goofy, but most of all music makes you DANCE. If you need inspiration, loom up the personal Bio for "Amy Purdy". An amazingly talented woman with a heartfelt, INSPIRATIONAL story, that will motivate you to dance.
So, if you are looking for a Choreographer for your Dance Team, House Routines for your studio, or if you would like a "Fusion Hip Hop Class" at your studio, ......OR..... maybe you would like to see someone you love, who is battling medical difficulty, to SMILE once again.
Or maybe you need a Zumba / Dance Instructor and Choreographer, I am available to help you in YOUR time of need.
Need to raise money, Let me help you with a
Zumba-thon, a Dance-athon, or a "Fusion*Dance*Fitness - athon" to help you raise money for your charity or special need.
Please contact me as I will graciously accept your invitation and would be honored to join you in your next venture.
Let's be creative, energetic and have FUN. Let's Dance TOGETHER!
Influences & Inspiration
My influences are dancers from many genres, some are VERY famous as others are truly amazing professional dancers that continue to inspire me personally. Some of these dancers are not necessarily in the "famous limelight realm" but they are the dancers who motivate me on a personal level. These dancers have invigorated and influenced me.
