Francis Brennan's specialty is adaptations of world music to the 5-string banjo, America's official instrument. Styles include Irish, French Canadian (Quebecois), Russian, Klezmer, French, Italian, Latin and Indian music, as well as more traditional banjo styles such as bluegrass, old time, and dixieland jazz.
Brennan also plays nylon-string guitar and sings French popular songs (Piaf, Trenet, Brel, etc).

Francis Brennan of the Contrapparatus Onemanband has taken tunes from dozens of disparate musical traditions and adapted them to the 5-string banjo, from Indian ragas to Quebecois fiddle tunes, Chilean folk songs, Irish jigs, Brazilian jazz, and genre-defying original compositions. With a minimalist drumset (Contrapparatus) on his back, a banjo on his front, and a harmonica in his face, the Contrapparatus Onemanband presents a fantastical amalgam of world music, while remaining the embodiment of the classic one-man-band.
