If you're looking for an experienced drummer for a fill-in situation or need a high energy band for your party, wedding, or corporate event, look no further! Either way, I'm confident I can help. I personally have over 40 years experience & my bandmates have 30+. I'm currently the drummer for 2 bands, Bobby Cool & The Nashville Players (also on here) & the Castle Drive Band which showcases my wife as one of the lead vocalists. We play a variety of music from country, classic rock, rock n' roll, & Christian contemporary/praise & worship. The audio file attached is a medley demo recorded by the Castle Drive band. Thanks for your time & I/we look forward to working with you.
Price Range: $200 - $2500 depending on needing me or full band.

What to Expect
Depends on what you're looking for. I've explained several options below.
If you only need myself as a drummer, you can expect to get an experienced, professional, musician with a great personality. I'm laid back, easy to get along with, and don't cause any trouble. I don't smoke, do drugs, and I don't get drunk. It's very rare that I drink on a gig even if it's offered but once in blue moon I might have a cocktail or 2 or and that's it. Beer is nasty so you won't ever see me with one of those! I'm dependable...I'll be there when requested, set up my kit, and be ready for sound check as directed.
Although I do have 2 acoustic kits, you can expect me to show up with my Roland V-Drum electric kit with the new TD-50 sound module. Oddly to most people, I prefer to play my V-Drums over either of my 2 acoustic live kits. Why? Many reasons! I like the feel and bounce I get from the mesh heads over real drum heads. I don't have to worry about tuning unless I want to change that electronically. I can control the volume if I'm in a small room or venue, change sounds, and any setting imaginable. Myself or the sound engineer doesn't have to worry about micing my drum kit except for the hi-hat and cymbals if necessary. The TD-50 sound module I use can send signals in mono, stereo, or individual line outs from the kick drum, snare, and left and right toms. I also have hundreds of other sounds at my finger tips such as a clap, snap, rim shot, or just about any other sound effect you can think of within arms reach unlike if I'm using a live kit. However, I don't like electric cymbals. So unless I need to use them for a recording situation like the Castle Drive demo audio file I uploaded, I prefer to I use live acoustic hi-hats and cymbals. I also have a Cajon (wooden box that you sit on & play) if that is something you're interested in for an acoustic setting or wedding ceremony.
If you need "Castle Drive" as a full band, you can expect to get a high energy cover band who's professional, fun, entertaining, keep your guests on the dance floor and strive to meet your every expectation. We're a great group of guys and a gal who love music and love to perform. We play everything from rock 'n' roll, classic rock, top 40, country, to contemporary Christian praise and worship. If you have special requests, just ask and we'll do our best to learn those songs before the gig. All of us are Christians and have played in church or are still playing in church. So if it's Christian praise and worship you're looking for, we can accommodate that too. We're a 6pc band but can accommodate just about any smaller band scenario to suit your finances. If you're looking for additional or specific musicians such as fiddle player for a wedding ceremony or a sax player for a full band situation, I can probably accommodate that as well with other contacts that I have.
My name is Darrell "Stix" Hicks, I'll be 42 in August of this year (2018). My parents put a pair of sticks in my hand when I was 1 year old. My Dad was in a band at the time & they would sit me down by the band with my sticks, drum pad, pots & pans, & whatever else they could find for me to beat on and steal the show. I don't remember much at that age but I do remember getting my first kid type drum kit when I was 3 years old. I remember getting a little nicer kit a few years later. Then when I was 10yrs old, my Dad bought me a 25th Anniversary Beatles Edition 6pc Ludwig kit for $500 which I still own nearly 32 years later.
I grew up playing oldies (50's, 60's, & 70's) with my Dad. We formed a couple of bands during my childhood & played several gigs at parties etc. My parents got a divorce when I was 18 & my Dad bought a house way out in the country which put a damper on band members driving that far for rehearsals so the band we had at the time basically fizzled out.
I gave my life to Christ when I was 18 & became a Christian. I started checking out churches in the area looking for a church home. In 1997, a co-worker invited me to DFA. (Dickson First Assembly) As soon as I walked in the doors I was shocked to see live music in a church. I had never experienced that before. Praise & worship there was amazing & I instantly knew that was something I wanted to be a part of as it really touched me. The drummer there at the time was very good & it was a larger church so my confidence level & thought of performing in front of several hundred people made me a little nervous. After attending for a while & deciding I wanted DFA to be my church home, I approached the worship leader & asked if he could use another drummer. I auditioned & got a position as a percussionist & as a sub drummer when Harold was out. Eventually, Harold & I started rotating weekends. Several months later Harold decided to step down & I became DFA's full time drummer. I played for DFA for about 9 years.
In 2009, I felt like God was leading me into a different chapter in my life so I decided to try a different church. I started attending FWO (Friendship World Outreach - currently Compassion Church) in Jan. of '09. A couple weeks later I was told that another campus pastor of FWO was asking about me as he was looking for a drummer for FWO's homeless ministry called Mission 615 in Nashville. I agreed to take the position & played for Mission 615 for 6 years. I also sub'd for the other campuses when needed.
While I was playing for Mission 615, my worship leader brought in a new bass player that he met while doing bridge ministry for the homeless. His name was Steve. Steve worked security for the homeless ministry but was also an experienced bass player from Vegas. He & I hit off & we really gelled together....personally & musically. One day Steve came to me & said "Hey Brother, I met this country music artist named Bobby Cool & he's looking for a drummer. I'm going to play bass for him. Check out this demo CD & see what you think". I listened to the demo & was very impressed! I told Steve to tell Bobby I was definitely interested & Bobby agreed to audition me. Apparently he liked me. Steve & myself have been playing for him ever since. We play mostly weddings, parties, & corporate events. We've been to numerous different states around U.S. with the most recent being in DC where we opened up for Pat Benatar for a corporate event in Feb.
In May of 2017 I married my beautiful bride. Her real name is Lisa but she uses the stage name of "Jaimie Ryan". She too is a professional vocalist of 30+ years experience. Late last year, Dan, Steve, & myself who all play for Bobby decided to put together an additional project with my wife as a lead vocalist. We also added a keyboard player with vocals & an acoustic guitar player. Together, we're a 6pc band called "Castle Drive". We're a high energy band that will keep your guests on the dance floor while having a great time at your wedding, party or corporate event.
Additional Booking Notes
NOTE: The band videos I have uploaded are from gigs I've recorded with Bobby Cool & The Nashville Players. I posted those to promote myself as drummer but that is NOT the Castle Drive band.
"Castle Drive" is a newer project which also includes 3 members from Bobby Cool & The Nashville Players...bass player, guitar player, myself & also includes my wife as one of the lead vocalists. She's the female vocalist on the Castle Drive audio demo as well as the video of "Long Train Running". When a client asks Bobby for a female vocalist, he'll hire Lisa to step in.
