Cuñao is a very dynamic group able to play many different moods of music.
From a romantic or nostalgic piece for a first dance, to Latin dance classics to get everyone on the dance floor.
Cuñao is very folky in its instrumentation, with Guitar, Violins, Accordion, electric bass and percussion as the main instruments. We also have piano, Mandolin & brass available depending on clients needs.
We have a wide selection of original music but also can play many Latin dance and folk classics.

The band started as a recording collaboration by founder Julio Montero in New York City in the summer of 2010. Having recorded a few songs under their belt, Julio moved to L.A. and finished the album. The end result was the self-released debut Trabajo Y Ron in March 2011. The album is a fusion of electronic beats and synthesized sounds infused with the spirit of ethnic folk music. Moving forward with a rotating roster of friend musicians, Cuñao put out a 5 song EP titled Los Testigos, a collection of nostalgic folk songs inspired by Latin American music of the 1960’s & 70′s, released on April 24th, 2013.
In the spring of 2014 members Craig Shields, Gabriel Ramirez & Severin Behnen joined the band permanently. Josel Cruz stepped in to the role of bassist a few months later and they quickly began preparation to record their first full-length album as a new band. Sangre Y Arena, was released in October 2015 and it features some re-recording of earlier songs as well as all new songs.
Cuñao spent a big part 2015 playing to new audiences throughout the Southern California region. They were awarded the 2015 Artist Showcase Spotlight by California Presenters and were featured in the marketing efforts for the 2015 California Presenters Annual Conference. They were also selected by the Los Angeles County Arts Commission as part of their Music Roster, which features artist that represent Los Angeles in many of the LA County Arts’ sponsored events in the county .
