What We Do
(link hidden) offers several stock themes for murder mysteries that are very popular, including Murder Hawaiian Style, Shaddup and Die, Wappkapplitt Family Reunion, Murder on the Links, and Death at Loch (link hidden)rder Mystery costs range from $250 – $1,500 (or more) depending upon the number of guests and travel costs. This provides approximately 1 1/2 hours of entertainment. For an additional fee, we can customize our mystery to whatever theme you have in mind. Here’s how it works. It’s usually best to have us perform during dinner. We arrive, in character and in costume, when your guests are arriving. We act as if we’ve all been invited to the same event for the same reason (i.e. we’re all on a cruise together, it’s a family reunion, it’s a meeting of the families of gangsters, etc.), so everyone is involved from the get-go. We mingle with the guests, we eat with the guests, and we butt-in on activities with the guests (like disrupt those boring speakers). We entertain each table as people are eating. We walk around, we talk to everybody, and we will do some loud, sort of staged bits, for the benefit of everyone. But, we’re not scripted. It’s all improv and the emphasis is on making people laugh. We’re very funny and very high energy!Around about dessert time, a murder happens. Suspects are called up for questioning by a detective. If there are people at your event who have engaged themselves and are funny, we’ll include them in the questioning as well. The audience has an opportunity to complete a ballot saying who did it. Out of all the correct answers, we draw one and usually award a prize. You can provide, if you like, a substantial prize (a restaurant gift certificate or a brand new Corvette), or we can provide a small theme-oriented gag gift.If you decide to book us, an important thing to remember is that you need to inform your guests that they’re coming to a Murder Mystery (i.e. include it on the invitation), otherwise it takes them a long time to understand what’s going on and they think we’re just some obnoxious guests!
Our Crew
Brian Haggard – Managing Artistic Director
Mr. Haggard considers himself the more talented of this dynamic duo. ” His favorite roles include “Oscar” in The Odd Couple, “Gary” in I Hate Hamlet, “Teddy” in Arsenic and Old Lace and “Dr. Watson” in way too many Sherlock Holmes murder mysteries to count. Brian holds a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Humanities (whatever that is) from Michigan State University and is creator of the one man show on Theodore Roosevelt Teddy Roosevelt Speaks.
Shelly Hoffman – Executive Director
Obviously the more talented of the two, Shelly has perfected the art of lipstick and eye-shadow as well as acting. Ms. Hoffman has appeared in numerous stage productions and worked as a principal performer (Stenographer) in the feature film, Alleged. She isn’t a matchmaker, but she has played one twice on stage (“Yente” in Fiddler on the Roof and “Hanna” in Crossing Delancey). Hoffman has directed several shows, including Arcadia. She holds a B.A. in History from the University of Michigan-Flint and an M.A. in English Language and Literature (also from that fair school). By day she leads a statewide nonprofit and by night is an Adjunct English Instructor at Mott Community College. On weekends, she is an actor and general slug-a-bed.
