Blues Reveler is Matt Keeler's tribute to American Roots Music. Based in West Central Ohio, they perform acoustic blues, old-time music, ragtime, tin pan alley songs, gospel, Irish traditional music, and the occasional world music selection. Blues Reveler is perfect for backyard barbeques, house parties, and the like. They perform at the Cavern Club Winery in Ottawa, OH on the last Saturday of every month. Matt has been featured in the Findlay, Lima, and Putnam County newspapers for his hurdy gurdy music. You can also find him listed as a solo performer on Gig Salad. Live video of Blues Reveler and Matt Keeler can be found on YouTube and on the Blues Reveler website.

We will provide a lively show! The core of what we do is acoustic blues-based, but our repertoire is vast and includes many historical styles of American music. If the audience is interested, we can explain our obscure instruments and traditional music styles in an informative way; however, if appropriate, we will run the tunes back to back, providing a musical backdrop for your party or event.
Matt Keeler has been playing solo acoustic guitar blues and gospel since the mid-1990s. In the summer of 2009 he formed the American Roots band, Reverend Hokum's Blues Revelers. The band drifted apart by late fall, but the experience provided the groundwork for what was yet to come.
A passionate advocate for traditional folk instruments, Matt aquired a hurdy-gurdy from reknowned Hungarian maker, Balazs Nagy, in the spring of 2010 and, while looking for repertoire, he began adapting Irish and Scottish pennywhistle tunes to the instrument. Music for bagpipes also worked well with the hurdy-gurdy's droning sound. Inspired by his success, he brushed up on mandolin and learned a few sets of traditional fiddle tunes. By fall, with the addition of an antique banjolin and a ragtime songbook, he thought it high time to take another stab at forming the quintessential American Roots band.
The brothers, Adam and Ben Thayer, joined Matt and Blues Reveler was born. Ben took up the washboard, mainly for blues and rags. Adam backed up the fiddle tunes on 12-string guitar. Miscellaneous instruments, such as the bones and Irish Whistle also appeared. The atmosphere was ripe for rollicking and people began to take notice.
Through exposure at the Blanchard River Arts Guild's Annual Art Show, Blues Reveler soon found a home at the newly-opened Cavern Club Winery in Ottawa, OH, where they now play a monthly gig. Matt opens his stage to any and all old-time musicians interested in collaborating. The result is music that will never be the same way twice. No band in the land is quite like Blues Reveler!
If a sound system could be provided, it would be greatly appreciated. We do not own our own sound but, if necessary, we can borrow one. We use quite a few instruments at every show. For that reason, prep time for tuning and adjustment is important. It would also be good to have a quiet backstage area to prepare ourselves mentally and talk over the set list before the show...and free food and drink is a plus!
