At last! The day has come for your scout to celebrate his long awaited Eagle Scout Ceremony! From camp outs and kayaking to knot tying and merit badges, your Eagle Scout has worked hard to earn this honor. Show him just how proud you are of this fantastic achievement by throwing him a party he’ll always remember! We’ve got a few tips and tricks to help make that happen, so let’s get this party started!
Getting Started
Before you can jump in to planning the details, you’ve got to set a date and find a location for your party. Decide whether you want to have a joint party with other scouts getting their Eagle around the same time, or if this event will be just for your scout. Work with the parents of the other scout(s) involved if you choose to merge parties and find a date that works for the majority of your scouts’ family and friends. Often, scouts will host this party directly following their Eagle ceremony so consider leaving time for an after party when planning the ceremony. This may also affect your location as the party should ideally be held at the same venue or one close by. To simplify things, you could host the party at your home. Or another great option is using your Eagle Scout’s troop building (if available)!
Bring the Fun
No party is complete without the entertainment so be sure to bring the fun with live music or performances! If you’re planning a larger party, consider hiring a DJ or band to play your scout’s favorite music. For the smaller party, a good set of speakers and a few great playlists work nicely and cut down on cost. Party size aside, you’ll want to capture all the memories created at your event, so remember to take pictures! Or hire a professional photographer so you can take time to enjoy the fantastic party you’ve thrown!
With all the fun going on at your scout’s party, your guests will need a little nourishment to keep their party animal selves going! Get creative with the snacks and make eagle-shaped cookies or cupcakes with the troop number or your Eagle Scout’s initials on them. Take your refreshment table to the next level by having a custom cake or cupcakes decorated for the party! If you’re planning on hosting your party after your Eagle Scout’s Court of Honor, having the party catered is a nice touch to thank your guests for making time to come out and support your scout.
Decorations
Keep your party planning wheels turning as you start thinking about how you’d like to decorate the event. Stick with the red, yellow, and blue color scheme of the Eagle Scout ceremony and deck out your venue with the balloons, streamers, and maybe even a congratulations banner! Place your Eagle-themed refreshments throughout the party to fill the space with food, fun, and of course, your party colors!
