There are many layers to booking shows that artists need to know about, but this one might be the most underrated, yet one of the most crucial. Although it’s important to make sure you book a successful show, here are a few lasting elements that will bring you even more successful shows in the future.

Get to know other bands you’re performing with.

If you’re booked in a show that involves other line ups, it’s important that you reach out to them in some way, get acquainted, and network. It’s the perfect opportunity to exchange contacts, and who knows, if that band happens to make it big, you might be one of the first artists considered for an opening act (or vice versa)!

Be courteous to everyone you work with.

Remember that everyone you work with has worked very hard to get to where they are now, just like you. Whether they’re the promoter, other bands, stage crew, or bartender, it’s very important to respect everyone’s role in helping you propel your career in the music industry. It’s very likely you’ll need them or work with them in the future.

Get to know the local industry professionals.

This is especially important if you’re touring in the area for the first time. Local industry professionals, such as managers, promoters, publicists, media outlets, etc. all can play a major part in getting you plugged in and connected so you can get your show off the ground.

Support other local bands.

This goes hand-in-hand with the first two points. If you support other bands—attend shows, buy merch, post social shoutouts—chances are they’ll return the favor for you!
